    I saw this in Real Simple magazine. My question is: can you just screw it into any ceiling anywhere?

    whenever I see these I think people must have really clean bikes... I'm barely allowed to put it inside in the hallway!

    Not me! I keep my bikes in the living room because there just is no other place to put them. If they're really dirty (such as from riding when it's wet) I'll wipe them down before bringing them inside, otherwise they just come on in.

    I clean my bike after every ride. It takes less time.

    I think you probably need to screw into a joist.
