I'm so excited! I just got my first mountain bike! It's a Specialized Myka HT Sport with disc brakes. I'm a mountain biking newbie, but I can't wait to start exploring the many, many trails around here. My son is home for the summer and has promised to take me out and teach me some skills and show me the fun trails. We went out really briefly today (before the big deluge hit) and it's so much fun! Hard work though, my heart rate zoomed right up there on those climbs.

I won't be giving up my road rides, but it'll be fun to do both (and to be able to get away from the cars sometimes).

What a beauty! If you have a lot of trails see if there are clinics. I go to a weekly women's only one when I can and have learned so much. Also I find mountain riding perfect on windy days when I really don't feel like being on the road. Tucked in the trails it feels a lot different if a 25-30 mph wind is blowing.

That's a great idea, thanks! Our club has 1 or 2 beginner MTB rides a month, but there must be others in the area as well, I'll look around.
