Full moon

Last night the cat and dog were PSYCHO. At about 3:00 am it suddenly turned into the Indy 500 with them playing until one fell off the bed and then chasing each other around the house. Collars jingling, dog yipping, cat chirping, Heidi's (dog) claw making noise as she tore around corners at lightning fast speed and DH whining. Please tell me it was the full moon.

I've always wondered what kind of effect the moon has (for real!).

When I was very small, my grandmother played the organ at a catholic home for mentally ill people and she took me with her. I was pretty scared while I was there because they were pretty noisy. One of the nurses there told me it was because it was a full moon and that the patients were always more active when it was a full moon. As a science teacher now, upon further reflection it was most likely superstition!

I tried to find some articles and for the most part, scientists have debunked the whole full moon effect thing.

But just because scientists can't seem to find a link doesn't necessarily mean there isn't one! They couldn't figure out for decades and decades how the bumblebee was able to fly given its mass and wing size. Maybe they just haven't figured it out yet

Anyway, that sounds like animal mischief! Do you think it could have been coincidence?

lots of time i feel really awful during the full moon. Or really excited. Scoff if you like, but fishermen,mushroom hunters and farmers pay special attention to moon phases for planting, fishing and harvesting. Why would humans be exempt from the effects of it?

Haha midwives. It's the gravity of the moon pulling on the babies! I have also heard this as well, and it's just really funny!

Sounds to me like it's just one of those things that's totally unquantifiable.

You know how women's periods sync up? That must be pretty hard to quantify but it totally happens! I've had at least 3 pregnancy scares because my ovaries decided to make play dates with those of various former roommates.

I wouldn't laugh at midwives. I don't think many of them are stupid enough to say the moon's gravity is pulling the babies out!

I think many of them are smart enough to say that there are noticeable patterns in life, and it's not necessarily up to us to understand them or be able to explain them, and to just accept things as they are. My daughter-in-law's midwife recently predicted the date and time of her impending birth, and whether her older son would be awake or asleep, and she even determined his weight, and it was all true in the end. Don't discount intuition.

That said, the full moon is very bright and it MUST disrupt our circadian rhythm in some way, maybe affecting some people more than others. I just spent this whole weekend in the woods next to a pristine national river, and I'm sure my soul was soothed by the whole environment.

Mimi, as an emergency room employee, I can tell you this is our observations.
First of the month, weekend, full moon means only one thing. The oddities come out of the woodwork. We dread this combo.

I love the whole full moon thing. There is a lot of epidemiological data showing things such as increased emergency room visits. But, there is no scientific data that the full moon does anything. It's rare to see so much compelling evidence for something and yet a complete lack of evidence at the same time.
We had a 27 lb cat when I was a kid (I'm not joking, it was both huge and fat), it loved my mom, rode wrapped around her shoulder all day everyday. The few times it couldn't find her and settled for me were painful, I don't know how she put up with it, except the cat was tenacious and wouldn't let you get rid of him. It was easier to just let him ride around on your shoulder than to have him try to crawl up your leg, or, worse, jump from somewhere and land there.
Anyway, 3 days/month, around the full moon, he was placed in the guest bathroom and death to anyone who went in there, no one ever did.
On a full moon he would suddenly attack my mom - literally going for the jugular. He did it a couple of times in her sleep and a couple of times when draped around her shoulder, always on a full moon. The second time his attack sent my mom to the emergency room, the 3 days/month bathroom was decreed. He lived a surprisingly long time, and this schedule was maintained for about 10 years.

Well I must say the fur kids were still at it last night (and it is riot to watch) but when we said "bed time" all was quieter around the house.

I think full moons effect more than we realize if we just go on about our daily lives.

I have an alpaca farm and my animals are always out in the paddock under the full moon. And more births happen this week in our industry as well.
