    Cheap Blinkie Recommendation

I know everyone is always searching for lights to help be seen while commuting and I also know that if we get them on the cheap, all the better

While I don't dispute that the SuperFlash is pretty much one of the brightest, I also have a Bell taillight that is pretty darn bright. And it's $9 versus $25 for the SuperFlash.

It's the Bell Night Shield Taillight. http://www.amazon.com/Bell-Night-Shi.../dp/B000AAYBY6 I have two of them, both purchased at WalMart for $8.88 each. One is mounted to the back of my helmet, the other is on the back of my rack. They are very bright: my husband says he can see me at least 3/4 of a mile away at night with only one of them on flash in the back of my bike. It seems to be reasonably durable, too. I haven't had any issues with it yet and I've been using it for two months now.

I have both the SF and a couple of Bells and side by side they really seem to be close in brightness (the SF *is* brighter, though). Still, if you are on a budget and need a blinkie, I'd totally recommend the Bell.

p.s. After reading the Amazon reviews, I tried to pop the red cover part off the reflector and it's extremely hard to do, so I have a feeling that Bell has tried to fix that issue.

"A bicycle does get you there and more. And there is always the thin edge of danger to keep you alert and comfortably apprehensive. Dogs become dogs again and snap at your raincoat; potholes become personal. And getting there is all the fun."
