"I'd say the odds are astronomical"

Biking in to work this morning, a perfectly lovely day. Took a little break at my park cut-through, and was super excited there was no wind on the normally breezy road by the oil tanks. I was plugging along at 20mph, go to make a turn, peek behind me to check for cars and see another cyclist. If they could catch up to me at that speed, I figured I should let them pass, so I slowed up a bit.

"Good morning!" (says the other cyclist)
"Well good morning, Mr. X!" (names have been changed to protect the innocent) "What are the odds?"
    "I'd say they're astronomical!"

It was a friend from high school that I hadn't seen in years. At least 5, maybe more. We pulled over and chatted for a few moments, exchanged numbers, and continued on our seperate ways. So exciting to have caught up with him and to know that he's into cycling now. He and his wife apparently bike right near my house regularly. Maybe I'll have some cycling buddies now!

So who else has had a most improbable meeting while biking?

I'm just amazed that you recognized him, if you never rode with him before.

I don't always recognize my current cycling buddies if I see them in a store without their helmets and gear on.

He has a distinct voice, which is what tipped me off. The full beard made me do a double-take. I asked how he recognized me, and he said he didn't, he was just saying hi

my husband has been riding past someone he knew for 2 years. They are going in opposite directions, and they're both fast riders. They even were saying hi some of the time.
On bike to work day the local club set up a booth right near where they cross paths and they got there at the same time. It's YOU!!! they both exclaimed.

Funny, I hope you run into your schoolmate again.

    No such luck

So only one other story of biking reunions? I guess the odds really are astronomical!

The onyl thing is DH and I keep running into the same guy who races the series on the trail. We saw him Thursday at our local trail! I told DH we will introduce ourselves next time because this is third time we have a seen him, might as well say "Hi Bob or Jim or Dave or Julio" ! Okay I doubt a middle aged white man is named Julio but that would be funny.
