    LED lantern for car camping

Does anyone use an LED lantern for camping? I'm thinking of one to replace my trusty old Coleman two-mantle fuel lantern. The Coleman is great of course, but it's big for just me and the dog.

I've read mixed reports on LED lanterns -- just looking for real-life reports. I know it won't be as bright at the Coleman.

Yes. Especially if we are flying and then camping. You can ship LED lanterns easily without worrying about the globe breaking. Also LED lanterns are smaller. We both take LED headlights, much better for cooking in the dark or reading in the tent before going to sleep. The batteries easily cover a 2 week trip and are to replace if you are gone longer. The only drawback to the headlights is if you forget to turn them off when you sit down to eat you do blind your partner.

I find this little one very useful and versatile:
    LED flashlight/lantern
I can use it as a flashlight for walking at night, but you can twist it open and hang it up as a little lantern that radiates light in an area in your campsite.
Also very useful for walking down the road at night- open the lantern and hold it pointing down from your hand as you walk, and cars can see your bright lantern from far off- much better than they would see a flashlight.
It's not a 'big' lantern but it's a cool small flashlight/lantern! Fits in your pocket too.
