Have fun and good luck Denise

    Hi Denise,

As I am in and out of the boards lately, I just read about your upcoming trip. I believe you leave on Friday? Well, it sounds like so much fun. When you return I will look forward to reading all about it. I am very much interested in what type of roads you will be riding. When I mention my husband and I touring Maine by bike one day, people talk about all the major hills. I have no idea as I have never been in all those pretty New England states.

I hope the weather wizard is good to you. I thought I would write this now as I never know what the next minute or day will bring with my day job changes.

    Thanks JoAnn!

I'm planning to leave work a little early on Thursday - about 2pm - and I will drive as far as Bangor. That's all I-95 (or its offshoots), and I'll drive the remaining 30 or so miles to my bicycling starting point Friday morning.

As far as the terrain goes, I'm expecting rolling - but I could be surprised!

I do plan to update my journal from the road when possible, but I don't expect to be able to update it every day. And pictures will definitely wait until I get home.

Ok. I will look forward to reading and seeing the pics whenever you are able to post them even after the ride.

Thanks for all of your good wishes...

I'm in true countdown mode now. Two more days... Tonight's task is packing. Yes, I'm a bit of a maniac, but I got into the habit of packing a day before I need to, and I've found it has two benefits. One is that if I'm missing something - who knows what - that I'll have a chance to "un-miss" it before I leave, and second, I have a relaxing evening the night before I leave. So you'll still see me popping in to the TE forums over the next couple of days.

Thanks! But here's hoping that I don't need to wear those armwarmers! They are packed and ready for cool temps, and in the meantime, my traveling companion Rover may decide he wants to wear them...

Here he is checking out our starting stash of Luna bars! I was trying to pack, really!

Have a great tour, Denise! I read your pre-tour journal and will be following your updates. Hope it's warm enough that armwarmers won't be needed, the rain stays away, and you have the wind at your back!

    Be safe and HAVE FUN!!!

Have a wonderful journey, Denise! You are so close to leaving. What an exciting feeling, to know you'll soon be out there, just you and your bike and the wide open road. Who knows what you will see and experience! I am glad we'll get to read about it in your journal. Have fun - be safe!

    In your honor . . .

I finally rev'd up MY red Sidi's. Taking them out for their first spin tomorrow and will be thinking of you. Do you think it is over the top to ride a double-bubble pink cross bike with the red Sidis and a pink jersey? Maybe add the pink Terry "Ride like a Girl" socks.

    Happy trails and good journey.

Thanks to everyone for sending good wishes for my return to touring! I'm working today, but leaving early so I can drive as far as Bangor in the daylight, then I'll set off on my bike in the morning...

    SadieKate -
I'm amazed that you were able to wait this long before breaking out your red Sidis! I did wait a while to don mine, but only until the weather changed for the better. Somehow I couldn't face wearing them in wet nasty weather... Red shoes, a pink bike, and a pink jersey sounds like a perfect inauguration to me!
