On the merits of bike commuting with raincoat and rain pants

Weather forecast: RAIN increasing in the afternoon, gale warnings in the evening; 60 degrees.
I left my office to discover dry pavement. As I exited the gate, I felt a raindrop. Oh no, it was starting to rain. i got quite a ways before i felt another drop, but by the time I was on the road heading east, i was feeling them closely enough that it was just spitting, not really raining yet. I wanted to go to the library so instead of following my instincts to go straight home (because i could see that sky) i turned left instead of right; INTO the weather and went up the hill. As I approached the library, it started to come down pretty good, actually raining, pavement getting wet.

Inside the library, I grabbed my books, caught my breath, and collected myself. I stepped back outside and saw that the rain had lessened, so I got back on my bike figuring if it really started to come down i'd at least put my raincoat on. I rode two miles of indecisive light precipitation when i found myself sharing the lane with a bus. hm, bus race.
Buses go faster than bikes but they stop every two blocks or so, and then the bike can overtake the bus. Obviously, the object of THIS challenge is to get completely ahead of the bus because it's annoying when they pass you and stop in front of you (and block all lanes). Well, in 2 miles, the bus passed me 3 times before I finally got the downhill and won... and now it was significantly raining. But How could I stop now? Exultant to have beat the bus (before the bus I was plodding)
I got home wet but happy with my raincoat and rain pants safe in my panniers.

I'm the sort of cyclist that will put on my rain pants (well, more like wind pants) until I absolutely have to.

So the indecisive rain that we got here was spittin' this morning, I rode along for 32 kms., with rainpants in pannier, just hoping the skies would not open up.

Still waiting in Vancouver for the downpour f(rom Seattle?)

it always feels good to get in some cycling..and avoid the big downpour just in time.

It was pouring this morning, and I really didn't feel like biking, but there were 2 kayaks on the car that I really didn't feel like taking off while it was pouring.

So I put on the raincoat & rainpants and biked to work.

    Biked back home for lunch.

And utterly did not enjoy not having fenders and having water sprayed into my face, so I took the car & the 2 kayaks back to work with me.

    I know, I'm a wuss.
