Rode today with my son and his friend and his sister and their parents. My son and friend are six, the sister is 10 i think and we went out the railway paths near our houses. We put up with a lot of whinging on the way out from the two boys as the wind was in our faces and they both decided that a near constant incline was offputting enough that they wanted to be at home playing on their Nintendos. Slow and steady won the day and it was gloriously sunny and we eventually made it through some ups and downs, some nettle stings, some falls, some pedal slaps and a burst lip (handlebar to face interchange) to the pub! Lunch in the pub, a burst of rain and a trip to the playpark. Then home downhill with the wind behind us, we were all in much better moods and no-one fell off or got nettled or anything, sun came out again and it was a stunning ride. Ideal for 2 six year olds, a ten year old and three out of shape adults18 miles in all. Not too bad. Little one's knackered now and i've hosed him down and fed him and i think he'll sleep for a hundred years!

and this was only his third time out on his road bike since then. He had been trail riding a bit and just went back to work 3 weeks ago. I wished him well and turned off to go toward my house. Hey, my ego was boosted when he said that I was "flying."

On the flat, perfect sunny autumn weather again and no wind. Had to stop a couple of times to stretch out dagger-like pain through my left shoulder/neck - frustrating, but manageable I guess.

If only I had my camera!
