I received an e-mail about upcoming spring mtb races in the state and it's left me somewhat puzzled. Our region was hit by a bad ice storm--the storm of the century if you will. Trails in my area are still shut down due to fallen limbs and "hangers"--limbs that are dangling but won't fall. One of the parks won't have help until June to help clear and cut timber and I just don't understand how these trails can be open to mtb'ers when people are still getting seriously injured, if not killed, by falling limbs. Bucket trucks can't even get back into the woods to cut down the limbs on the tall trees. Most of the trails used by AMBCS are in the northern part of the state, the area most affected by the storm. I just don't get it. I don't think I'll plan to race this year. I can't even get into any of the local parks to practice.
