Does anyone own a Panasonic road bike? I'm looking at one on CL. I know their old, but does any one have thoughts/opinions about them?

A friend of mine had one for many years that she rode on more MS charity rides than I care to think about! Not fancy. Serviceable. Functional. She maintained hers regularly and got tons of life out of it. I suppose if she were not satisfied with it....she wouldn't have kept it!

    which model??

DX-6000 were road race grade. DX-5000 was entry level road race.

6000 came with Dura Ace, 5000 came with Ultegra. Both frame uses Tange #1 which is the top of the line steel tubing for a Japanese bike.

One thing you may consider/remember is the spread on the rear triangle. It may not accomodate the new 10 speed clusters.

I liked my DX-5000 bike. handles very nice, relatively light... Very stable bike not too good for crits. great for riding distances. It was smooth in hard turns, never had it shimmy on me... Comfortable.

    Wanna give me more details?

Bottom of the line-as it turns out! It's the sport CS (i think it's CS, maybe CX). It seems to be in pretty good condition. There's actually pic's of it on my blog right now..feel free to follow the link below.

I ended up picking it up for $35. I'm fortunate to have a great bike co-op here in town. The guys there will be very happy to teach me how to work on it. Then, worse case scenario, if it really doesn't work out for me, I can donate it to the co-op.

I've been doing some research, I'd love to find a DX model in the future!

Very nice! Congrats on scoring a great deal on a vintage bike. Please keep us updated. I'd love to see the after pics for Click or whatever you decide to name her.

    Beautiful old lugged bike!

I see you live in Guilderland, NY. I have relatives in Slingerland. I'll be up to visit and do the Tour de Cure ride in June.
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...

Is that the ride that follows the Mohawk River trail?

I don't know the area geography really well, but I don't think so. In the past the rides all started from the HS in Stillwater and headed north. This year they moved the venue to Saratoga Springs. Anyway, I'll be in your area the weekend of June 4-7.
