Smile 2005 Trek 1500 WSD, how much? Help!

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I'm looking to buy my first road bike (!!) and I found a 2005 Trek 1500 WSD. The woman wants $700 for it. It only has about 50 miles on it, as she has only used it a few times on her trainer inside. I realize it is like new, but think the value of it is more like $500-$600. What do you think? Here are the specs from Trek's archives:

    Frameset
    Sizes 43, 47, 51, 54, 56cm
    Frame Alpha SLR Aluminum
    Fork Bontrager Race
    Wheels
    Wheels Bontrager Select
    Tires Bontrager Select, 700x25c
    Drivetrain
    Shifters Shimano 105 STI
    Front Derailleur Shimano 105 T
    Rear Derailleur Shimano 105
    Crank Bontrager Race 52/42/30
    Cassette Shimano HG-50 12-25, 9 speed
Pedals Alloy road, sealed, w/clips and straps
    Components
    Saddle Bontrager Select WSD
    Seat Post Bontrager Carbon
    Handlebars Bontrager Select, 26.0
    Stem Bontrager Select, 26.0
    Headset Slimstack, sealed
Brakeset Alloy dual pivot w/Shimano 105 STI levers

    Thanks for your help!!

I bought an '06 in '07 from a bike shop for $500. I'd go lower, too. For a little more than $700 you can have a brand new current model bike. But they don't make the 1000 anymore.

Oops, mine was a 1000, not a 1500. But still.

She's pretty much priced at about the right price from what I see on ebay.

The cheapest trek 1500 with 9 speed 105 sold for $561 + shipping - but it did not come with wheels - everything else sold in the $675-800 range:

I don't know where you live, but around here you can get $650 or whatever for a mostly unused bike with tiagra level components. The trek 1500 that you're looking at has 9 speed 105. HOwever, I'm in a crowded metropolitan area with lots of yuppies and maybe your local market has less people with money

I sold a 2004 trek 1500 in the fall for $850 - but it did have a spare wheel and a few other things.

If you can talk her down to $600 - great, but I think $500's too low.

This is great info! I'm thinking of parting with my '05 1500 and was wondering what a decent price point might be.

If you are parting with your 1500 and it's a 56, let me know! I just got fitted, and the one I was hoping to buy is a 54, I need a 56 WSD... Thanks for everyone's help!
