    Talking Rain

The ride, not the totally enjoyable weather to ride in

I think I've officially lost my mind and am really seriously considering doing RAIN (Ride Across Indiana). It's 159 miles in 1 day with 3 SAG stops and a lunch stop. You get 14 hours to finish it. I've done a couple centuries and as long as the wind isn't howling, I can hang and not die at the end. But a century and a half? Holy shnikies. So have any of you done a ride like this before or have done RAIN? Am I ready for the nuthouse? The ride is in July so I have time to train. I'm also doing RAGBRAI the week after. I've done that twice, so I guess I'm itching for a new challenge. Yeah, that's it.

    Yup. You're totally cracked.

No, really, go for it. I would think that after the first 120 miles, you'll get that silly grin on your face and your brain will become numb. That's when it gets fun!

The way I figure it - if you can ride 11.36 mph, you can finish in 14 hours. Now, that isn't so hard, is it?

Ragbrai the week after - now THAT'S nuts!

    Be sure to report!

I guess there are 2 make that 3 of us that are nuts. A friend and I are planning on doing RAIN, if she doesn't have to work. Then Ragbrai, 4th yr for ragbrai but never done RAIN. I am concerned about training for RAIN. It sounds like a killer. I figure I'll take the week off to rest up for ragbrai. Are you riding with a team?

A friend and I are doing it. We did it last year. She completed and I sagged out at mile 131. I intend to conquer this year ! Last year a storm blew up while we were at the lunch stop. We waited the storm out and I don't think I ever really got my groove back after that. I would recommend getting a hotel at the Richmond end. We thought we'd drive back to my house afterward but my riding partner kept getting car sick so we finally found a hotel to spend the night. My husband will be doing sag for us so if anyone wants to hook up we'd be glad to do additional sag.

Heh. Good to see I'm not alone in my insanity

I have 3 other people that I'm going with, so I don't know if I'd call it a team. This will be my 3rd RAGBRAI, never done RAIN either. I figure I need to start trying out other states.

I'm doing a century this weekend, so I'll see how I fare. That'll be a good litmus test for RAIN.

I was reading about the Race across America. Now THAT is nuts!
