Do Keen Commuter sandals ever go on sale?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I'm dying for a pair of Keen Commuter sandals for the upcoming spring/summer/fall riding season (I don't ride in the winter), but they are still $115 everywhere. Just wondering if they ever go on sale, does anyone know? I guess I was thinking that they'd eventually have "last year's models" on sale, but the ones for sale now look exactly the same as my friend bought last spring at REI for full price. I know they're great, but that's a lot to spend since I have perfectly good regular riding shoes.

Does anyone know if REI or anywhere else ever puts these on sale? Or are they just so popular that it's full price or bust?

    Thanks!

Use one of the REI discounts on them (20% off any item)? I haven't seen them on sale either....

But they were too narrow for my foot - I may try the men's.

I got mine when Performance was having 20% off, and used whatever points I had to boot. Net - $70 some dollars. I LOVE THEM!

I heard they were hard to clip out of, with spd pedals. Is this true? I really want some to use on my Jamis this summer.

I just bought mine at full price last fall because I was tired of waiting and wanted them so badly. I LOVE them, and it's one thing I didn't mind paying full price for (this coming from the queen of thrift store shopping- except when it comes to cycling gear).
They are hard to clip out of with my SPD's. I do have some trouble, but I'm going to do a little trimming with the dremmel tool. I could change pedals, but I don't want to. I'm stubborn.

I didn't have any trouble clipping out of them with my spds, but I have the men's because they are wider. Wonder if that somehow makes a difference?

Hands down they are my favorite shoes. Worth every penny.

I have never had any problems clipping in or out with mine. I can't wait until the warmer weather comes back (if it ever does) to wear them again

I have the dual sided campus pedals on my Jamis, as I occasionally ride it with regular shoes (which I can barely do now, after 8 years of clipless). I also have them on my mtb. I have thought about getting Frogs, but then I would need separate shoes for spin class and I am not quite sure I am ready to give up the flat pedals on my mtb.
I still might buy the Keens. I have a pair of regular Keens that I wear canoeing and when I ride down to the pond in my neighborhood. I love them.

No difference between 2008 & 2009. Style carried over unchanged. There's a new color for 2009 though. Expected in Feb. Keen has a closed cycling shoe for men & women for 2009 too. We'l have that as well.

Thanks for all the input, ladies! I wear a 7 in women's sizes and have rather narrow feet so men's would not work. I would be using them with either Frogs or Crank Brothers pedals (I have both). I'll see if I get a dividend from REI this year (I don't think I will as I think all I bought from them this year was sale items), and with the 20% coupon off one item, perhaps I'll talk myself into them...if I still have a job then (my company went into bankruptcy protection this week so I am nervous about spending ANY money at the moment).

I have heard nothing but good things about these sandals (and the fact that they run narrow, which I'd heard before, is a good thing for me!)

    Thanks all!
