It's a pretty great feeling, isn't it? Knowing that you did it!
Awesome job! Now the only question is: When are you going to do your first century?!

Congrats from neck of the woods also!!! I rode a ride called the Bloomin Metric and although more hills than I anticipated I rode 62.15 miles. I will probably ride more rides (but flatter) before my first century in October.
What a sense of accomplishment, isn't it? Good Job!!!

Doesn't that feel wonderful?! My first 50 was years ago on a mountain bike. My husband rode with me and was so thoroughly disgusted he never rode again until last summer. Now we road cycle on proper road bikes and our 50 last summer was a much, much better experience.
Ever notice that 'what the hell' always seems to be the best decision?
Congrats Margaret! wooohooo - isn't it amazing how "short" it seems once you actually do it? I just did another 1/2 century last Sun just coz I could! LOL....I'm still trying to find the time to try my first century - but it's looking like Memorial Day might just be the ticket for me!
Job Well Done hun!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand, strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: "Yeah Baby! What a Ride!"
congrats road runner! when is the next one? what was the altitude gain? and...how many calories consumed?

I don't know what the altitude gain was but there was lots of hills. Living around here there arn't a lot of flat routes.
The route we took Me and Hubby, I don't think I could have done it without him.) (map link attached was Kinross along the A91 - Yetts of Muchcart - turned right at Gleneagles house -Dunning - Bridge of Earn - along the A912 to Gateside - along the A91 to B919 to Balgedie along the A911 and turned of for Kinross just before Milnathort

Good luck with the SF to LA ride!!![]()
and Corsair mac good luck with your century ride.![]()
Good for you, Margaret! I sure would like to ride that route - I bet it was loverly!!
Isn't the A91 a big old road? Did you feel safe on it?

Yes it's quite a fast (60mph) and busy road but I don't really mind the traffic too much unless they pass too close to me!! Once you get on to the smaller unlisted roads it's much more pleasant. We had a lovely view of Gleneagles once we turned off for Dunning and got up the hill.Originally Posted by nuthatch

way to go!!! You should be very, very proud of yourself... anytime you achieve a new goal it's a big deal...
as to the weight gain... I think that's pretty normal... you consume so much liquid and get so hot that I believe your body sorta "stores" it... it's you body being scared about what the heck you're gonna do to it next!![]()
LOL... I'm sure it'll come back off in the next couple days...
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".
So glad to hear that you are back in the saddle and obviously doing well. Nice job Margaret!!Originally Posted by Roadrunner

Congrats Margaret
I haven't done a metric half, let alone an imperial half...
I am training mostly for 20/25km TTs
But hope to do my first metric half in the next month, and am slowly building up to doing a century (Round Lake Taupo, 160kms)
Ancestors of both mine and my partners would have known the Kinross area well
Hope to get there one day
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
"I will try again tomorrow".
