    CA First Double Century?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I'm starting to schedule out my event rides for 2009 and am curious:

What's the best first Double Century to attempt?

(Veronica, I'm lookin' at you especially!)

Solvang is pretty easy, but it comes very early in the season, so it feels harder than it is.

Best bet is likely Davis - pretty flat, local. If you are a decent pace liner, it can be a fast one and a lot of fun.

One of my friends did the Terrible Two as his FIRST double last year. NOT advised! (But he made it. )

Be warned, they can be addictive! I've done 9 doubles (and a bunch of rides over 200k in distance), so if you need any training/fueling/hydration suggestions, feel free to ask.

I did Solvang as my first; Davis as my second. I thought Solvang was a lot easier. But my training was very focused through Jan. and Feb. and I probably peaked for Solvang. I also had my honey riding with me for the first 145 miles and company is good.
