I would find some decent shoes, most of my running shoes have been around $60 and try to find a jersey on sale.BTW- Team Estrogen is still having the Pi Sale.

So, I was givena nice crisp $100 bill for my birthday Whoo! Not sure how to spend it, but some ideas are:
road shoes (instead of my mtb's)
a jersey ( something cool instead of my nerdy one)
running shoes (bf wants to train for his 1st 5k-I'm his new partner)
or
a food processor
What would you do?

Nah, I was old on the 17th, but the $100 dollar bill is on my pinboard at home, taunting me with the possibilities.

Depending on how much running you are going to do I would go with the running shoes. Running is pretty hard on the body, a lot of force goes through your legs and of course your feet. I don't know if you have any foot issues ( neuromas, over pronation, etc) but you dont want to skimp on the shoes. IMOH
If I had the willpower, I would wait until the after Christmas sales.

I agree with Solobiker and Grits. Running shoes are incredibly important in keeping your body in good working order. Replacing knee cartilage is way more expensive than $100. Figure out exactly what you're looking for and then buy it cheap online, maybe at the Christmas sales.(Which if you're listening to the media are happening early this year because retailers are all scared...)
You can find good running shoes for $60 on clearance, that is what I do. Even more likely if you don't wear a size 8.5-9 like me. Try Roadrunner Sports online, good deals there. I could but I won't pay $100 for shoes, makes me nauseated since if you do a fair amount of running they won't last even a year. I only wear them for running but 6-8 months was about as long as I could go when running 4-5 days a week. You can self test your arch and pronation.Oh and I bought my Sidis on clearance for half price so I am just cheap, wouldn't spend $220 on cycling shoes.

Sorry AA, I disagree. I would NOT buy running shoes on line. I would go to a running shoe store (Just like I would not buy a bike without a professional selling to me). Running is HARD on the lower body. If you are serious about it, go get a fit and yes, I spend up to $100 on my shoes. Once you know what works, you can then look for bargins on line.
And since it is B-day $$, it SHOULD be spent! On something you want.
I am a push over for nice jerseys.....a gal has to look good on a bike!![]()

I probably got lucky on my first pair and now I stick with stuff like them. Of course my one trip to Runtex (expensive running only store) pointed me to the shoes I already was wearing.I haven't had injuries or blister issues (knock on wood). I did have tendonitis in my knee but I injured it many moons ago bowling and it was a flare up of that.

Thanks for the input! I used to run, untill a heel fracture sent me cycling. I think I will invest in new running shoes, to avid further incident. If there's casharoonie left over, maybe cute socks for both sports![]()

+1 on running shoes and +1 on buying at a local shop that specializes in running. When you first get into running it's important to have a professional shoe fit, ideally at a place that can put you on a treadmill and see you run in the shoes. Sound familiar? Getting going in running is not that different from getting going in cycling. And like in cycling, developing a relationship with a good running shop will be a huge help in the long run (no pun intended). Support your local LRS!![]()
Hi tofu,
Given some thought to your question. Only advice I can give you is, if you had made that $100 instead of given to you as a gift, what would you do with it? How many hours of work is that after taxes?
If you do spend it spend it wisely. Or may be start a saving account if you don't have one or give it a bit of boost if you already have one.
