    My seat came off!!! Grrr!!

    Hi All,
I just had to share this. This morning I hooked Quinn (the cannondale) up to the trainer, put in my headphones, hopped on, and started pedaling. Less than 3 minutes later, my rear end was sideways. I got off and my seat was pointing at my couch rather than my handle bars. I pushed it back to where it needed to be, got my little tool out and went to tighten the screw that holds the seat on the seat post and pop...off came the seat. The screw wasn't loose, the seat post was firm, but my seat was in my hand.
I called the bike shop, took it down there and the guy said, "Whoa! That's so weird!" Yep, I thought so too. I have no idea what the terminology is to describe this properly. So anyway. They swapped out the seat post for me. (I got one that is solid instead of the springing one I had before)

Heh, I also got a trainer tire put on, since I was down there. My partner is still laughing because it is bright orange. I'll admit it is pretty funny.
Okay, so that's what happened today. When i got back and spent some time rearranging my seat so that it fit better and took off on the trainer. By the way, do trainer miles count for miles a week? Just curious.

I'm done now. Have a great day everyone.

    Mine too!

Mine tilted as I was going down a fast downhill last week and my DH tightened it which was ok for the rest of that ride. Worked on it at home and was ok for a couple rides. This weekend been making a loud pop and then tilting back or down. Took it all apart yesterday and it looks as if the seat post is worn smooth. It slipped a notch today at the start but stayed for the whole 38 miles and 3300 feet over some bumpy patches. Never the less my husband is on the way to the LBS to see what they can do-other than a new seat post-just got the bike in July.

Wow! I'm glad mine was on the trainer and not on the road at the time. If yours did what mine did then I'd have been scared out of my mind! I'm glad you're okay and that your husband is getting it fixed. I just bought mine in October so I was really really p*&&ed off! But it's fixed now.
Happy riding and good luck with the seat.

Just curious...what kind of seatpost did you have? Mine was a Zeus carbon and hoping shop where I bought it will replace it as yours did. That shop is in Sacramento, about an hour awa. In the meantime lbs gave me a loaner .

It was the stock seat post: Satori Poise XC suspension. I didn't like it and was planning on replacing it anyway. I have no idea what kind they put on...I wasn't paying attention...I was too busy eyeing that orange tire they put on the back. haha

Goodness gracious... I feel that this is an appropriate moment to share my Saddle Tilting Experience with someone:

This summer I particiapted in my first ever 70.3 ironman triathlon, and being a rather inexperienced cyclist, I was anticipating the bike leg only partly with enthusiasm. I had aero bars on my road bike, and the saddle titled somewhat forwards. The rounds were about 18k (12 miles?), and riding downhill towards the turning point and feeding area I suddenly heard a small "clank" and I sort of "fell" backwards. Fortunately I was holding the handlebar rather than the aerobars, otherwise I would've greeted the tarmac with a nice headbutt. It turned out that the whole saddle had come loose, tilting backwards. Technical assistance is not allowed and it turned out that my tool wasn't really long enough to unscrew it and sort it out properly, and I didn't want to spend time stopping by my car to get a new tool. I managed to fasten it enough for it to be stable, but I ended up riding the last 72k with a saddle tilted backwards. I had to spend the rest of the day with a saddle digging into my soft bits, and eventually it hurt so badly that I had to really pull myself down and forwards in order to still lie down in the aerobars. I don't normally look forward to the running leg of a triathlon, but this time I couldn't wait to liberate my soft bits and stretch my back!

    Warning to Madone owners

Trigress, I don't know what you ride, but what you describe is a common problem for the seat designs on the new Trek Madones. In the first week on our Madones, both a friend and I had this same problem.

I ride a Ciöcc Morpho II, and it would be far from fair to blame the bike. Responsible for my incident is no-one but myself, having done a bad mounting job!
