Thumbs up Pacific Coast Trail Runs

I thought I'd say something about Pacific Coast Trail runs because they hold fantastic trail runs throughout the west coast (mostly california, and mostly bay area). Trail running is an experience in its own, as much as mountain biking differs from road riding. These events are non-competitive, well planned out, beautiful scenic routes, well stocked with food/candy/water/sport drink. For almost every event they have 10k, 20k, 30k, and 50k option. These events are great for the first timer, to the ulthra marathon runner. Their website is very informative, check out www.pctrailruns.com

I put in plug for this series last year. I agree, super fun, well organized, and beautiful courses. I did Woodside 50k in Dec last year as my first 50k and then the spring Montana de Oro 25k. I thought about going back for Woodside again as we had such a great time visiting the ocean, eating, and drinking good beer (we've been in Utah only 3 years, relocating from the Sierra foothills, so it's been quite an adjustment having to work so hard for beer that isn't 3.2%), but between making the time for the miles I need to for training for 50k and now the price of travel, I don't think it's going to happen (though hubby wants to go back to that great grocery store in Woodside). I have family near the Montana de Oro event and my brother likes that one, so I suspect I'll probably go back for the 25k in March.

Anybody up for the Portland Forest Park races? There is a 20 K and, it seems, the option to make it a 30 K, which would be a perfect distance for me. (Although the 20K would be good enough, especially knowing what running in Forest Park is like!!!)

The date is Sunday May 24th, which is during a 3-day weekend in Canada, so it would be possible for me to go by train.

I am scheduled to turn in my PhD dissertation on June 1st. That race could be a great reward for me.

    Volunteers?
