    abbreviations

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I lurked for a while on this site and have been posting for a while. there's a few abbreviations I am not familiiar with. I've tried searching but they're too commonly used.

so, i don't know, are these just common to this site or are they familiar on other sites and i just haven't come across them? (I'm UK so that may be it)

So the main one - DH? What does this mean? Can't remember now other things I've been baffled by, but any other acronyms or abbreviations usesd - I'd be grateful for an explanation.

    Thanks

    Ms P

I think this may have come up in the past, but it might be a bit difficult to find... here's a few off the top of my head

DH - dear husband (also DS- dear son, DD-dear daughter DPITA- dear pain in the @ss, SO- significant other)

    a few bike specific ones

    LBS - local bike shop

TT - depends on the context - time trial or top tube

I just learned one last night when reading the FAQ. NSFW, which when posted in the title warns that the topic or images are Not Safe For Work. (Don't believe I've ever seen it in this forum, though.)

The one I'm not sure of is +1. I think it means something like "I second the opinion in the previous post."

There are more but that's all I remember tonight.

Just so you know, there is a very good search function on this site. I typed in the word "abbreviations" and it brought up another thread with that same title.

okay, what about abbreviations that have gone out of fashion and no one uses any more? Since the invention of emoticons, you rarely see <g> or <s>, but also <g,d&r> seems to have vanished.

Any others you can remember, still trapped in your floppy disks?
