    OY! Treadmill Running Record

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Dean Karnazes (sp?) is trying to break the world record for the most miles run on a treadmill in 48 hours.
    OY!!!!
    If you go here:

you can watch him on a web cam.

It's kinda cool to check in on him. He's a good 25-30 hours in right now, and is getting a hitch in his step. Go figure!!

Okay, now that is CRAZY!!! After about an hour on the treadmill and I am going bonkers! 3 hrs. on the road with scenery, no problem.

Oh, I just took a look and he is bent over and holding up his body with the arm rests of the treadmill . . . and he's walking very slowly. I thought this was hours of RUNNING, but I guess not. ???

    Interesting. But yet, so boring.

When I just looked at him, he was walking. Pretty slow. I guess the record is about time, not speed... so slow is OK.

He kept looking at the window to the left of him. I guess people were on the other side? Or he was just checking out the world outside so he won't go nuts?

I have met this man in person and yes.... he is certifyable. If you have any question at all, read his book "Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of a Night Runner" I think it's called. I was all inspired by the first few chapters until I got to the part where he got mad because they pulled him off of the course at Bad Water, when he was unconscious!!

He is kinda good looking though if you like men with only 3% body fat.

He must be done. I just checked in on him - 8:10 Idaho time, and he signed a book and left. It looked like there was confetti in the room.
I really should be studying for my exam at 10:30. This just seemed so much more.................interesting!

He didn't make it!! Only did 211 miles, needed 240+ for the record..
So 48 hours, confetti, a big run up by regis and kelly, and eehhh.... no record...
Poor guy. Gotta give it to him for spending 2 days on a freaking treadmill.
Yeah, he took breaks, and walked, but for the most part he was on the treadmill for two solid days. No sleep. And he finished RUNNING!
OY! Gotta hand it to the guy. He's either a complete stud, or completely nuts. I'm thinking a bit of both!

Am I the only one who isn't a Dean Karnazes fan?

I really don't know too much about him... but his whole attitude of "if it doesn't hurt, you're doing it wrong (or not enough)" offends me. Seems to me we should be trying to avoid injury, and using pain the way nature intended, as an indicator of potential problems. Maybe it's just that he triggers my upbringing... but there ought to be more positive role models out there IMO.

    Oak-
Never really read up on the guy. Just thought it was nutty that he was going after that record.
Also thought it was cool to check in on the web cam..
But I've never read his books, don't know much about him.

Actually, as I indicated in my previous post, I'm not much of a fan. At first I thought he was inspiring but then I realized he's a danger to himself and I lost all enthusiasm. There are better ultra runners out there as well. They just don't actively market themselves like he does.

When I met him it was for a photo shoot and the person organizing it asked me if I needed anything. I told her "ya, I need to be on the other side of the studio from him so I don't catch whatever he has." Having said that, you better believe I have a picture of me with him.
