    Safety Checks

    Dear friends,

Two reminders as the new season comes in:

    - In the Northern Hemisphere, days are getting shorter. Please, please, of course: use lights, but also: check the batteries if your lights are battery-operated. On my commute home the other night I noticed at least three commuters who had their lights turned on but I barely could see them as they were very weak. Get new batteries. (And recycle the old ones appropriately.)

    - Check the length of your helmet strap and the rest of your helmet fit characteristics. http://helmets.org/fit.htm for more information. A friend of mine was in a crash with another roadie last weekend. She just got a broken collar bone, but the guy had a nasty concussion and road rash on his head. He WAS wearing a helmet but it was loose enough and was displaced while the cyclist went airborne, ending up crooked, leaving him to land partly on his head instead of the helmet.

    Thanks. I love you all.
