Oh no! Glad you weren't hurt!
I know that won't happen to me because I'm already walking up a hill that steep!!

The incline was so steep, I had to work so hard to keep on top of the rotation, that I pulled, just ever so slightly, up on my handlebars . . . and sent my front wheel up and over so that my bike cart-wheeled backwards down the hill.
Fortunately I was able to do a very ungraceful leapfrog from the saddle onto my butt and dodge my bike as it crashed.
I knew this would happen one of these days . . .

Oh MY GOSH! How scary! Glad you and your bike are okay. Just how steep was this hill?!![]()
aren't you supposed to fall UNDER the bike to protect it from hitting the ground?
Glad you weren't hurt! I, too, would have been walking that hill.
vickie
oh no! but you definitely get serious street cred for actually riding a hill that steep!!![]()
OK lime... I'm with Smilie - you do have to tell us how steep this hill is!

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
"I will try again tomorrow".
I don't know, how would I figure out the grade? Maybe I can borrow DH's garmin next time and graph it. It's not a long climb, just very steep. Normally I have enough momentum going from the previous downhill to just about make it to the top. This time, however, I nearly wiped out in the sandpit at the base of the hill and had to climb on my own strength.
I don't crash so much anymore (less blood on the trail), so just call me Stephanie
I'll tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than any one thing in the world. I rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a bike. It gives her a feeling of self-reliance and independence the moment she takes her seat; and away she goes, the picture of untrammelled womanhood. ~ Susan B. Anthony
ARGHThis is one of my worst nightmares! I don't why, just the idea of going backwards scares the bejasus out of me
Good for you for handling it well!

I tried to do something like that in Grand Haven. We don't have hills like that in Jackson. I couldn't get my gears to downshift so I had to climb a steep incline in a high gear. It was that or fall down because for some reason I can't unclip going up a hill. I felt like I was tearing every muscle in my quads, but after about a week I recovered.
I would really like to try mountain biking but my husband is not interested.
I really like the Western part of the state. we camp there a lot.
not any mountain biking- just bigger road hills than I'm used to. Especially in the part of town right near the water. I haven't done any trail riding or true mountain biking. I can't seem to get my Husband interested in it. There are trails we could go on near home, but it is fairly flat compared with the western part of the state. There are some trails near Grand Haven in a county park-can't remember the name of it, but it's just south of the town on Lakeshore drive. Don't know if bikes are allowed or not.
