    Tour of Missouri - ideas?

    To disable ads, please log-in.

The Tour of Missouri is passing through our small town. Not a lot of cycling going on here. The Superintendent has given me permission to have a weeklong "Tour of Missouri" week to educate the students in our district and get them excited about it. I thought about having a "Tour of Belle" the Saturday before. Maybe a short 5 or 10 mile bike ride through the town for anyone. (5 miles would involve many laps, we're very small.) The town plans on having American Flags every 100 ft along the route, banners and as many people watching as possible.

Any other ideas out there? I'm doing this for all three schools, elementary, middle school and high school and I've been in contact with people in town to have the town in on activities too.

How about a movie in the park? Breaking Away or the Flying Scotsman or something like that? (I know, Flying Scotsman is about track racing, but still...)

sometimes police departments will do bicycle safety presentations; I've seen them with little traffic cone obstacle courses and they talk about cycling safety and helmet safety.

Ach, the Triplets of Belleville is PG-13.

A bicycle Parade with decorated bikes for those with and decorated selves for those without? Maybe podium placements for the best ideas?

Maybe some sort of bicycle "race" where maybe they could stop at stations along the way and pick up a card with points. Placements to those whose cards equal the most points?

Or a scavenger hunt where you must find things that begin with the letters to spell something bicycley, like, um, 'bicycle' or 'tour' or what have you, length of the word depending on the age group?
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

There are some really great ideas here to get me started. Thanks so much! I really needed a jump-start.

This isn't a physical activity, but what about a contest between classes to see who can come up with the most facts about the various towns on the route. The winning classes could lead the "Tour de Belle".
