    Lance to retire after TdF

Just finished watching coverage of the opening press conference for the Tour de Georgia. As was widely rumored, Lance announced that he would retire from racing after the Tour de France.

    Total retirement... wow!

I had heard that this was in the works because he wants to spend more time with his kids... not to mention how tired he must be of being hounded regarding the "doping" issue. I just figured he would cut back; do U.S. races.

    Wow!

Time for someone else in the states to step up...
    no regrets!

    Paceline.com

If you go to Paceline.com they are updating the transcript as fast as they can. It's a very interesting conference and just shows yet again what a truly giving man he is. I won't give any more away - the transcript is well worth the read.

That may have been a way to avoid a sticky wicket - both his ex-wife and his current partner would need to be thanked and maybe that would have brought out the claws.

Whoops, I just read on - he does thank Sheryl. Who were you thinking of? His ex?

He thanked his ex when they were together for the other wins when he won them.

Nobody thanks an ex when they retire, get an award, etc. He thanked his kids. He thanked his present love.

    Very exceptable etiquette.

Sorry... just interrupting the side chat for a sec... Just have to say how much Lance has been a motivating factor for me getting back on a bike... I know he has inspired thousands and thousands of people to do all sorts of things from all walks of life

But wow, what an incredible, gritty, talented athelete
He must be difficult to live with, as any single-minded top athelete usually is, but it has been a pleasure to have watched/followed his achievements.

I hear he is also going to make an attempt at the hour record before he retires... gotta watch that too - imagine maintaining over 50km for an hour... what power.

He won't be doing that if it isn't set to happen before July 24. He's done, he said.
