    Changed my first tire today!!!

I went to go for my ride today and the back innertube was toast. I realize I may have ridden it home that way yesterday... OOPS!

BF is out of town but youtube to the rescue!! Unfortunately I would say it looks like I need a new tire cause there is an inch and a half long tear in it, though it does not go all the way through or anything. It is not the spot where the hole was either.

I changed the tube (yay for BF for having 2 spare tubes and tools in the pouch) and went out anyway. I did the same 26 miles as yesterday but tried to pay more attention to junk on the side of the road and did not ride as hard.

Yay for you! I have yet to change a tire. My two girlfriends have both had flat tire issues that they didn't have to change themselves. Neither would have any idea what to do, either. I have had a hands on "lesson" from dh, but always wonder if I'd remember everything and really be able to do it if I had to ... especially on the side of the road in who knows what kind of conditions. I've been encouraged, however, by others on this board, who have feared the same thing, but were able to do it.

One of my friends never even had a pouch with tube and tire changing tools on her bike until my husband finally gave her his and put it on her bike for her. My other friend bought her first bike, but not all the tire changing stuff (couldn't stand to spend one more dollar on, yet another thing, and was going to share with her husband ... take his when he wasn't riding) .... but my husband bought her all that stuff as a "welcome to cycling" gift. He's all into people having their stuff and knowing how to use it.

I, however, have been blessed to never had a flat yet. Being careful of where you ride helps. I think I have good tires, too. Not sure what kind, but they used to be my husbands and he wants them back!

I am glad I attempted to change it the first time at home. Now that I know I can do it, I will not be wigging if I have to do it out on the road! So it's all good!

I am riding BF's hand me down bike and when I started riding more seriously he bought the pouch for it.
