Praise for DH

Hey, ladies!

Just read the toys thread Veronica started. (yup, many banana guard jokes zipped through this brain... ) and I noticed how many of us have cool things that DH does for us....

thought it would be nice to start a thread just about them!

Mine is great! Totally responsible for the bikes - they look shiney and always work - and we each have 3! yup, our basement is a bike "shop", yup, he shops online and picks up stuff for both of us. yup, he never flinches at the cost of bike stuff (or sexy clothes) for me!

but, better than all that, he acts like he's my biggest fan, my motivator and my coach! On yesterday's monster ride (about 40 miles of road), he stayed behind me to pace me. The first 46 minute leg was what I did best. We were nearing the turn around point and I was starting to slow down and coast to it. and he pipes up - you're only a minute and a half from matching my time. you can do it!! Well, I didn't think I had anything left in my legs, but found something and hammered! Went down that little hill at mach....scared me and I was worried I wouldn't stop successfully before the railway tracks , but what a rush! And what a cool thing to do!! The return leg I ended up 4 minutes slower than him....and then I was slow on the next monster portion....however, and we have analyzed my performance, I really needed a gel or something at the 1 1/2 hour mark, but all I had was 2 bottles of cytomax. I know better for next time and I'll have 2 gels with me for that ride next time. Also, my butt and thighs were nearly cramping at several points, because of the double kickboxing class on Friday, both of which did killer butt exercises. I should be sore from that today, and I'm not! just another thing cycling is good for!

So, yes, DH is still in bed, and I'm feeling inspired. I think I might make him tea and bring it to him there....

I'm keeping my DH forever.
He brings me tea in bed every morning which is a treat.
Last year he decided to start biking with me so we could spend more time together and do something for us and the kids. He is always encouraging me and telling me I can make it up those dang hills. On weekends he usually takes my older son on a long ride and he and I do a shorter ride. He is very supportive and tells me to ride instead of doing housework.

Just wanted to echo what T said. We went on a 60 mile ride today. He rode with me the entire way, even though he could have gone much faster than I can in the wind. I ended up getting sick (nothing like losing your snacks on the side of the road) and he gave me permission to take the SAG because he knew I needed it, even though I'm stubborn and didn't want to take it. Glad to hear that others are as blessed as I am.

No need to be humiliated...It's the trucks that come by to pick you up when you can't go any further on an organized road ride. I know it's there for a reason, but it sure did feel like a ride of shame. I probably should have said "ride the SAG wagon" and it might have been more clear.

There is no doubt that I would have never discovered the joys of road biking had it not been for Al. I was totally intimidated by road bikes (how do you know what gear you're in and how do you shift that thing??) but he kept encouraging me. He did the research and decided that a Trek 2200 WSD was going to be the bike that would fit me - he was right. The first circuit around the parking lot had me in a panic and I was positive that that was NOT my bike. Going home (without the bike) I said, "Al - I'm not a roadie" to which he answered ... but you could be. And he was right.

Going clipless was also his idea as were riding single track and rail-trails. I have a ton of jersies, shorts and tights - cold weather biking clothes to extend our biking season ... instead of a big birthday bash to celebrate my 50th with black balloons and jokes about being over the hill, he planned a quiet dinner with family and a romantic day with him - and a Trek 5200 WSD.

I'm fortunate to have a partner who has discovered his passion of cycling and wants nothing more than to have me join him.

This year Al is going to enter his first mountain bike race - I can't wait to watch him finish (his only goal) and return the favor of cheering him on and being incrediably proud of him for all the times he's done the same for me.

Maybe that's why we're happily looking forward to anniversary #34

My DH, Blaine, is also a gem! We've been married almost 8 years and I'm so very blessed to have him as my husband. He's the true biker in the family (he used to be a Cat 1 and race track and road) but he's never pushed me to try cycling. I decided on my own that I wanted to start after we had our last child. He is incredibly supportive and is always willing to help me out in any way. We don't get to ride together much since one of us is home watching the kids whilst the other rides, but he's always encouraging me to get out. When we do get to ride together, he pushes me up the hills I can't make it up. I really love him for that.

He works hard at his very stressful job and still comes home and plays with the kids, does the dishes with our 13 year old (from my first marriage), helps give baths, etc. He plays guitar and I sing, so we jam together quite a bit... it's very fun for us to gig together.

He's a great husband, a best friend and a wonderful father. He's much more patient than I am and he's a good listener. He cares a lot about people. He's the perfect guy for me!

Awwwwwwwwwwwww, biking chick, that is soooo cool! We'll be you in a few more years (this is our 22nd year together, our 17th anniversary this fall - we're halfway there and having more fun than ever!)

The September 11th, I should think, as in 9/11(/01). I bought my last car on that day. Had to peel myself away from the tv screen to go and sort out my insurance.

Just to show my age .... I can remember where I was when it was announced President Kennedy had been shot as well as remembering when the Eagle landed on the moon.

I also can tell you the exact spot where the computer on my first road bike tripped over to read 1,000 miles
