    Sweet!!

Yahoo, I completed my first tri today. It was a Sprint in Lake Mills, WI, it was wonderful! I had a very large cheering section (maybe a little obnoxious) which helped a ton. My swim was great, although really really cold. I took time to get used to the water before my wave left. I did pretty well in the bike section and my transitions were fairly smooth, except for T2 when I "lost" my spot. (hehehe, my fans were nice enough to laugh with me and reassure me that I'd find it eventually). I definitely didn't do enough bricks before this race, the Bike to Run felt very goofy. I felt like I was hardly moving forward and I was struggling to keep up the shuffle/run. Thankfully, my run time wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I completed the whole thing in 1:32, which was way below my goal! That makes me happy. I'm signed up for the Danskin in July..I can't wait!! I look forward to training harder and hopefully improving!

    Congrats!

It's easy to lose your spot as you come flying in. I like to walk the transition area before the race. I approach my spot from the direction I'll be coming from after the swim and where I'll be coming in after the ride and the same with the run. That way I can see it from all angles. If I don't do that, I get totally discumbobulated.

A lot of people also mark their place with flags or balloons or other markers like that.

Congrats on your first tri! Sounds like you had a wonderful experience and you'll be hooked for good! Hip, hip, hooray for you!

FWIW, my runs always feel goofy- whether off the bike or just solo.

    Here's a trick...

First of all congratulations on your first tri. Woohoo!!! You did a fantastic job!

Here is a tip: Next time you are setting up your transition station bring a balloon to tie at your spot. It makes it so much easier to find when you are rushed. I'm not sure if they allow you do to this at all races, but it really helped me and my hubby at our first tri.

We plan to keep bringing balloons to the tris we do and it also helps (for those of you doing a tri w/ friends or family) to set up your transitions side by side. This way you have a bit more room to work with between the bikes.

    Bad Idea?

First of All- Thanks for the tips on how to find my transition spot better! It would have definitley been smart to have walked the entries and exits to and from my transistion, I will do this next time.

Next, How bad of an idea is it to do another sprint tri on Sunday (1 week from last Sprint Tri)? I understand I probably won't improve much. My Tri Team will pay for the entry fee, which is appealing. I had a lot of fun last weekend and don't want to ruin that experience with the possibility of this one being too hard on my body. Any suggestions? Might I decrease my time?

Last year I did 3 sprints on three consecutive weekends. You shouldn't hurt yourself doing them that close together. I made a little game out of it. I tried to see if I could improve my time by one minute each race. Kinda fun. I say go for it and have a great time (again).

If you feel up to it, why not? They sure are addictive! If you don't have to pay the entry fees, even better.

    Congrats, and have fun.

    Talking

Looks like we have another Tri Addict!!

I say go for it. If you aren't feeling any last effects from your earlier tri, I see no reason not to.

    Have fun & tri hard!
