Anyone interested in training for the World Wide Half Marathon (or Kick the Couch 5 k) on Oct. 11/12?

I took this blurb directly from the website.

"The World Wide Web, and the Internet have drawn people all over the world together, and dissolved barriers to communication and isolation. Runners, are by nature, social creatures who seek to share their experiences on the road, compete with each other, and establish friendships that transcend their individual beliefs, cultures and localities.

The sole purpose of the Phedippidations World Wide Half Marathon is to remove the barriers to camaraderie, with the intention that like minded athletes who harbor this passion for running, could share a single experience of competing in a world wide event.

The Phedippidations World Wide Half Marathon is a free, non-commercial event where everyone is invited to register, train and run with us in the spirit of friendship.

This unprecedented event is for runners of all abilities. New runners who are just starting out are invited to sign up, train and run a five kilometer event called "Kick the Couch 5k" with new runners all over the world who may never have thought it possible to rise off the couch and experience an active way of life. "

You train on your own and then do the run sometime during that weekend. You can enter a real race if there's one available, or do your own route.

There's also a semi-related 10k run for anyone who wants to do something in between.

That sounds fun! I think I'll sign up. That's two to three weeks before the marathon I was thinking of running, so it would be great timing. I'm in!

Hmmm....I'm running (fingers crossed) my first marathon the weekend before that. I'd like to sign up but I wonder if that's too soon to run 13 miles?

YES, it's too soon! I guess you could go for it if you really wanted to, but I think you're going to want to give yourself a rest.

I am signed up! I'm actually going to submit results from a half-marathon the week before (I'm pretty sure that is allowed). The WWH weekend is sandwiched in-between two half-marathons I'm doing. I'm scheduled to run 10 the actual weekend of the WWH and may up it to 13.1 if I'm feeling recovered enough.

To be honest, the dates are VERY flexible. They don't care if you do it the week before or after if you have to. The idea is to get more people running!

Teigyr, if you want to participate, I know some people will submit, say, the first 13.1 split of a marathon to the results. I recently listened to a podcast episode about a prior World Wide Half and Steve was talking about a woman who ran a marathon and did that.

I second that suggestion Teigyr. It will be too soon the next weekend for you to go out and run a half.

I'm game. I might be touring on my bike that week, but I'll work it out.
