On my commute to work this morning I had my mirror sheared off by a mini van that got a bit too close. It happened too fast to even get scared or upset; no loss of control over the bike, etc. I hate commuting without a mirror so the ride home will suck!![]()
I'd rather be swimming...biking...running...and eating cheesecake...

Good grief!
Geez, that does sound too close!!! Glad you handled it so well! I'm impressed you didn't get mad.
Try to convince yourself the ride home will be fun. Think positively! You're a great rider. You proved so this morning. You're going to be fine!
Holy cow! What a nut job for getting so close! I'm glad you weren't hurt.
Was the mirror on your bike bar end?

Idiots abound. glad only your mirror got hit.
I got too close for my comfort to a pedestrian last night.
What an idiot: he was walking around his car, facing me, off the sidewalk, on the bikepath, and clearly saw me coming at 30+ kph. I thought he was safely on his sidewalk again when the moment I passed him, he stepped off again.
I hollered at him and boy do I hope I caused him a major fright = learning experience, and I am NOT sorry.
There are dozens of riders coming that way on an evening, what is he, stoopid?

I am pissed, but I'm grateful that nothing more happened. Not sure I should tell DP about this.
Yeah, the mirror stuck out from my bar end. I'm looking at something new that will project less.

Glad you're ok. Yep, could have been a lot worse! Kudos to you for your excellent bike handling skills.
The best mirror I've ever owned:

I got it from the Rivendell website.
Whew! Glad to hear you are ok! Don't be intimidated and stand firm on your ride home. You'll be ok!

I second the Ultralight mirror option! I got mine recently (also from the Rivendell website) for a bike tour and love it. Easy to adjust while riding, if you need to. I have mine attached so that it hangs under the handlebar, rather than above or out to the side.
