On Hair and Food and Saddles

Hee. Got out on my bike today and man did it feel good despite low forties and occasional drizzles.

I put my hair in two low ponytails and wore a soft elastic headband to keep the wispies out of my face: success!

I had a big breakfast of two links of meatless sausage, a scrambled egg, and a piece of high-fiber toast. Rode 24 miles and came back to stuff my face with carbohydrate to replenish glycogen, and some fat and protein to keep me going through the afternoon: I had a piece of toast and some leftover Thai food (rice, noodles, and veggies mostly!) My body said THANK YOU!

Finally, my saddle continues to vex me. At about 20 miles on the mark I just could no longer get comfy, at least without propping myself up and rolling my pelvis way back in an "upright" position. However, I *was* wearing a pair of men's bib knickers with a seam straight up the middle of the chamois. Hard to tell how much of a factor that was.

I like to ride my bicycle; I like to ride my bike!

While it could be a saddle issue - I'd get rid of the seamed-chamois shorts first! I haven't worn anything but women's shorts for years, and I'm pretty picky about the fit...

Before this winter I only wore women's shorts, and didn't understand why my hubby, a former bikestore salesman, kept telling me that he was trained to steer women away from shorts with a seam. How can even men put up with a seam up the middle? But these knickers are handmedowns, men's mediums that have thighs so slender they wouldn't come close to fitting on most male cyclists' legs. They fit me fine from calves to waist and since I'm not much of a cold weather rider, it seemed reasonable to take 'em instead of investing in new fleecelined knickers of my own. But...ow!

Ditch 'em. You don't want to rub yourself raw or get a boil, ingrown hair or other nasty that will keep you off the bike.
