*Cries a tear* Warning! Whining Ahead!

Well, I know all of us across the US and the world have been dealing with bad weather. Rain, snow, wind, heat, cold... etc.

I was so excited for this weekend! Forecast called for nice warm weather and I had a bike rally on my schedule. Then the rain came in. Now, it's looking like a no-go. *Cries a tear* I was dang excited too! First rally of the year.

I can flip my 4.5 hour ride to Sunday. But now I'll have to do it on a 10-mile MUT. Ugh.

And I'll get to flip my 1:40 run to Saturday on a treadmill. Blah.

    I HATE RAIN!

As for the riding in the rain, I won't do it. If I go down and hurt myself my season might be done for. I'm not willing to take that risk at this point.

I just hope your spring is drier than last year!

Hang tough! It's just plain cold here!

Rain? are you racing? If you have good tires, you should be pretty safe riding in rain unless you are riding extremely... as in going as fast as you can!

Yeah, why not ride in the rain?

You could always go on some old bike if you don't want to take your fancy road bike, too.

But I ride narrow, skinny tires all winter without a problem. (Well, not this year, but that's another story.) As long as you're careful with breaking and cornering, and avoiding painted lines, you'll be fine!

I'm really parnoid about having a wreck on slick roads. Happend once to me already in my riding career.

My roadie has slicks on it too, and no other tires to put on it. Even then, I wouldn't ride in the rain.

As for my speed... uuuhhh... 15 mph overall as the terrain has some moderate hills.

Yea, I'm not as hardcore as the rest of you ladies are!

It is chilly here as well. I'm suppose to participate in a century tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to it. Looks like it is going to be 34F at the start and in the mid-50's by the time we return to our cars. I'm at a loss as to how I should dress for this one. Do I dress for the cold temps in the morning knowing I won't have room in my pockets to carry the layers as they come off with the rising temps. Or, do I dress for the forecasted higher temps and hope I don't freeze in the morning? I'm so looking forward to the 90F temps and 100% humidity levels we have in the summer!

Wow KSH - can you stand to run for an hour and 40 minutes on a treadmill?? I hate those things! Why not run in the rain? Unless it's cold out, or really pouring, it isn't so bad, once you get out there. At least, if you have somebody to run with (and anything is better than a treadmill). I agree - I avoid riding in the rain for sure.

Have fun (some how, some way ). Bummer about the biking.

    KSH-

You have my admiration for training through the winter the way you have! I share your frustration - it was 80 here, and I spent the entire day waiting for a closing that didn't happen and at the eye doc. By Sunday, it's supposed to be in the 40's and raining. ICK! Come on Spring!!!

I usually carry a couple of small velcro straps and come up with creative ways to attach things to my top bar. If you start out with leg warmers on you can remove them, wrap them around the top bar tightly, then hold them there with the velcro. It's not ideal but it works in a pinch and with practice can be pretty good.

    SNOW here!!!! Yuk
Sloppy thick stuff, 6 inches today, wet streets, with 8 inches more predicted for tonight. So much for my rides this weekend... back out with the snow shovels.

Nice to know I'm not the only one sitting home crying this weekend, wishing for spring

Karen- I don't go out if I know it is raining. Sorry you have to change you plans but I would as well. I did a rally last summer that started in a heavy downpour, saw three wrecks in the first 5 miles. I also spent the back 80 riding in a wet chamois because I had been so drenched, not fun at all.

Ladies- remember we are talking about spring in Texas. Rain usually means thunder, lightning, hail and often flash flooding. In Austin I rarely see cyclists out in the rain.

    Karen,
I would not take any chances either, you have way too much time invested in your season. I feel for you with the weather stepping in, it is tough when you are following a training schedule that is finely tuned. Well, all I can say is play it safe, and I hope it does not stink to badly....

I hear you. I have ridden 3 times this spring and one of them was while we were on vacation. I just woke up to a skift of snow and a wind advisory -35-60 mph gusts.

I am sorry that you had to change your plans - I'd be disappointed, too. I may have missed it, but what did you do instead?
