Chariot vs. Burley? Opinions?

We are in the market for a bike trailer that will convert to a jogger. We are looking at the Chariot Cougar or the Burley Solo. Unfortunately I haven't tracked down a Solo that I can actually see in person before buying. The features and specs on the two look similar, does anyone have any feedback on either of these? Thanks.

We've had both.

In terms of sheer hauling capacity, the Chariot wins. Also, it collapses into something about 5'x2.5'x1'. The various attachments give you options too. I haven't seen the new Solos, so I don't know if that'll convert to a jogging stroller or not.

I liked the solo because it was small and simple. Also, I preferred the hitch mechanism on the solo to the chariot. The chariot attaches via a ball joint-type thingy that goes on the QR skewer (extra long skewer is included). The Solo's hitch is self contained. There have been a few times when I wanted to take a kid out in the trailer, but my wife was out riding her bike with the hitch.

As far as towing, they both felt about the same.

I have not tried the Burley but we chose the Chariot in part because it seemed like it made a much better jogging stroller. And it is a fantastic jogger -- I am completely in love with it for that purpose alone. It's lightweight, easy to use, and the attachments are super easy to swap out. It does not fit very easily into my car, but that is really it's only drawback.

Oh, and you can buy extra QR skewers for about $8, I think.

boy in a kilt - Burley has changed their attachment. They now also have a skewer attachment for the trailer just like Chariot. You can still special order the other style if you prefer.

Burley was sold a few years ago, and now only makes the trailers and buggy things(no more bikes and tandems). Our LBS always carried the trailer/buggies, but when the new owner took Burley over, he ordered a trailer ,found the quality was significantly worse and decided to stop carrying the Burleys. Tokie

We have a Chariot and when my youngest was smaller we used it heaps both as a trailer for the bike and as a jogger.
We went out exploring when we lived in the USA in all sorts of weather and it kept him warm and dry unlike poor old mum. I loved it so much I had to bring it home to Aust even though my youngest is too big for it now. I guess maybe I will use it for small shopping trips or something.
