    Question Ruby Frame cracked

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Just crashed my Specialized 07 Ruby Expert frame...... Specialize will give me a crash discount (20% ) on a new 08 Ruby frame. The question is which frame to get? The 08 Ruby Comp is the same frame as the 07 Ruby Expert frame. The 08 Ruby Expert frame is a better frame but cost alot more than the Comp frame. All my components are fine just need to get the new frame and get the bike rebuilt.

A different grade of carbon fiber most likely. When I was looking for my Ruby Pro they had a 44cm Expert in stock (this was back when they only had the Pro, Expert and Comp models), and I quizzed the shop about whether or not it might be a good or bad idea to go with the frame they had and just change some components (there were only 9 44cm Pros made that first year so getting hold of one was a gamble....). He told me that the Pro was a different carbon and slightly different construction, and that rather than try to change the Expert I should hold out for the Pro, that I'd end up with more for my money in the end, as it was likely to cost me enough to make up much of the difference to do the swapping I would have wanted (and he found me my Pro too!)

    Question cracked frame

better frame means better grade of carbon....... overall the question is... is it worth spending a $1000 more to get a lighter frame with better performance, the frame I had was really light and fast, but does it pay to spend a little more now to get a bike I'll have for a long long time????

You can also send your current frame to Calfee and they can usually fix it. It is a fraction of the cost of a new frame also.

I know a bunch of people who have done this(sent in specialized, cervelo, and look carbon frames). They are all really happy with the results, the paint is matched and everything.
