When it rains it pours and I seem to have a little black cloud hovering over me today.
I woke up excited about the club's time trial today. I've never participated in such an event and thought I would give it a go. I discovered as I was getting ready that my old male cat, Figaroe, was showing signs of UTI. He has a history of blocking so I was a bit concerned. However, he was passing small amounts of urine so I decided to head to town for the TT and return home ASAP.
Arrived at the TT - dang it was cold, in fact it started snowing! Two miles into the TT my lungs started closing down but I kept pushing and finished the 6 mile course in just under 20 minutes (average speed was 18.6). I did not hang around for the announcements for the longer I stood in the cold air the worse my lungs felt.
I arrived home and checked my lung function on my peak flow meter. I typically blow a 500 today it was a low 260. I packed myself up and headed to the the urgent care center in town. Completed my paper work, indicated I was having an asthma attack and was told to take a seat - it would be awhile before a doctor saw me. However, if I felt my breathing was getting worse to let them know and they would push me to front. I took a seat and started praying it would not be long. My prayers were answered for I was the next person called back - seems someone told one of the doctors about my asthma and he had them move me to the front of the long line. Two hours later and three breathing treatments I was on my way home. My lungs are not great but at least I'm breathing a lot easier. Hopefully the prescriptions will kick in soon and my lungs will be back to normal. I really want to ride tomorrow - maybe a slow easy ride.
Arrived home can called my best friend who is also my vet and asked for her help. She agreed to meet me at the clinic. Figaroe was not blocked (thank goodness) but does have a lot of red and white blood cells in his urine. His blood work also showed some abnormal values but hopefully these are due to his vomiting and diarrhea. I came home with a handful of medicines and one unhappy cat.
The good news was a call from my oldest sister. Our dad was up and laughing today in his hospital room. She said he had a smile on his face and had eaten some pudding (the first food he has ingested in over a week). Just proves every dark cloud does have a silver lining.
I think I'll spend the evening on my couch. The breathing treatments have made me very jittery and I have a terrible headache from the coughing fits.
Tomorrow will be a better day!
