Bubba decided that the best pair of ski boots for his tootsies would be the only ones that are sold out in the entire US of A and 99.9% of Canada. I located the last known pair at the Calgary MEC (whew, because I don't speak French). Their incredible staff obtained special dispensation from the pope to ship across the international boundary and the boots are on their way via Canada post and "then most likely USPS."

The boots were shipped on February 6. How many days, weeks or months should we give the sled dogs?

    Oh . . . . my . . . . . gawd . . . .

While I was typing, the doorbell rang and it was the USPS with the boots. I'm floored. Perhaps I should ship via Canada because you obviously have faster dogs.

    Sheesh. I was thinking another week . . . .

Well I did a special Canadian MEC Mind Meld and told them to get their asses in gear. Clearly it worked.

Really it's all about how you talk to the dogs. And sometimes you can run into some trouble if your lead dog is in heat.

I would just like to say that the yellow water proof jacket, red windproof pants and black wind proof gloves all came from MEC. I love MEC.

Glad to hear MEC heard your cries of need across the border..

For Canuck..in Aussieland...the street that MEC in Vancouver is on, has within 1 block, several other sporting good shops. However I find MEC more cost-effective to begin checking out the goods...then going later.

As a plug for MEC, they have been good corporate sponsors for local cycling advocacy groups. During Bike Month in June, there usually is an event at MEC and cycling info. displays. For past 2 years, they have hosted a barbecue fundraiser in conjunction with the cycling advocacy group. Make sure you go to MEC on Broadway St. in Vancouver city, not the smaller store outlet in North Vancouver.

Oh by the way, Bicyclette is an independent LBS just a 5 min. walk down the same street. They have great bikes ..and not cheap cycling wear.

That's why as Canadian, after exhausting sources here, it's nice to shop in person at REI in Seattle.

Hey, I only live..2-3 kms. away from MEC. No guff. We climb the little hill on bike on Ontario St. from the Science World geodesic dome (that was part of Expo 86) to get to Broadway, turn right..next block. MEC

Oh yea, just before you go there, you pass the construction shennagins for the Winter Olympic athletes' village, then at corner of Ontario st. and 5th Ave., turn right...Terra Bakery. Best artisan bakery with healthy rustic breads, soups. Yea, I know, I know the area looks like light industry..but that will change with the Olympic Village turning millionaire yuppie condos after 2010.

The Calgary MEC also has a couple of MEC-style shops right around it.

I tend to check the clearance section of their website about once a week to see if there's anything new on there. There are some really good deals if you're willing to buy things in the wrong season.
