    buying a Balaclava from TE

The one thing my DH wants for Christmas is a balaclava, so I was planning to just order one of the ones from TE. He does not have a large head, so fit would not be a problem.

He will primarily use it for hunting. My first thought was to order the smart wool. The Louis Garneau is made out of polyester. He wants it to be as thin as possible (so he can hear) but warm. It gets cold sitting still early in the morning and late in the afternoon.

Any recommendations based on what you have?

As you know I am a wool nut. BUT....I love the Louis Garneau balaclavas from TE. They are so comfy and stretchy and thin and silky. But they do a good job of keeping me warm. I would not really want a wool balaclava on my face, no matter how soft. I have 2 of the LG ones, -I wear one when it's cold, and I wear both when it's well below freezing. They slip on nicely over each other!

well, my favorites are the type that under armour and Nike have. the portion that goes over the chin and mouth is a separate peice of fabric and it's easier to move it down to your chin. It is very thin. It is made of thin polyester wicking fabric.

They used to have it in tan and camo green, but I don't see it now. I got mine at D*ck's

I have a Nike one too. I actually like it better although it's made exactly the same. It's just made of that Sphere dimpled fabric.

I would like a thin hat that covers my cheeks and chin but not my neck (makes me feel like I'm being choked). I don't want my nose or mouth covered because of the condensation factor. Anyone know of an item like that?

Perhaps get the thin silky LG balaclava and cut the neck shorter? I usually wear mine over my chin but not over my mouth or nose...

Ahhh, good ol' Yankee ingenuity! Such a simple solution...I'm embarrassed I didn't think of it myself.
