Sand?

I am begining to wonder if what we were taught in high school is right. That sand comes from the weathering of rocks etc.

My theory is that sand is actually a substance shed by little boys. 3 boys & DH went to beach yesterday whilst I went for ride. There is now sand on the kitchen floor, in the bottom of the bath tub, all over the laundry & in MY BED! I feel like i have just removed all of last summers sand from the house & we start again. There is always sand in our laundry tub, no matter how much i rinse it out - another couple of washing loads and it's back.

Who else has boys that shed sand everywhere?

It doesn't come FROM little boys...it is stored by them in CREASES and CRACKS in their bodies...under their arms, between their toes, behind their knees, in their pockets, in their hair, behind their ears... ...

I once found out the hard way that my son's pocket were jam-packed with sand/gravel (all 6 pockets) when I went to put the clothes into the dryer. I can't I was dumb enough to throw his jeans in the wash without checking the pockets... I had to scrape handfuls of gravel out of the machine and rewash everything...

LOL - yep 3 boys here and I find all sorts of amazing things in the washing machine after I do a load of laundry including sand.

I produce sand all the time. It tends to generate more from the friction in my clothes. But I have noticed the folds of skin and my ears seem to produce it as well. It is a good thing or I might have a hard tme finding sand for all the sand sculptures I do.

Anyone know "Dr Science" from NPR. This sounds like something that would be on that.

Actually, we have these glands right under our skin and we secrete it sort of like sweat.

Young boys' sweat isn't the proper consistency so it comes out looking like ground up rocks. As they get older and the consistency of their sweat changes, the clumps start to stick together like adding water to flour. At a certain point, it comes out looking like women's hair but it doesn't need to be conditioned.
