Just found out about this very fun looking ride happening next Sunday on the American River Trail. Women Only ride from Folsom to Old Town Sac and back...sixty miles, or you can do half the distance for 30.
This is the first year. The American River Trail is a great place to ride.
30 miles of no cars, quite flat and very beautiful.
    Worth the trip!!

    Princess Promenade

    Hi BikerDar,

I hope you came out to the beautiful, auto-free American River bike trail in Sacramento to ride in the inaugural Princess Promenade. We had hundreds of women from all over arrive dressed as their favorite princess and celebrate the freedom that comes from cycling.

We have the date set for 2008...it is Sunday, October 5th. I hope many more women come in from around the country, as I have since found out that this is the ONLY ride for women and girls on a bike trail in not just the country, but in the entire world.

The goal of the Princess Promenade is to get women out of their cars and on to their bikes. We have skills clinics leading up to the event to improve their confidence and safety.

    Royal regards,
    Janae Noble, Founder

Did anyone else do the ride this year? I was not up for it last year, with an eight-week-old baby who was still nursing every 40 minutes, but this year I brought her along in the trailer and we had a fantastic time. I am looking forward to making this a yearly event for the two of us.

I was especially pleased to see so many teenagers -- you expect the little girls, but I don't see many teenaged girls on bikes. And the cycling club from Sun City Roseville was pretty inspirational.

We did not get princessed-up this year but we will next year:

(Her shirt says "Girl Power" but that did not stop everyone from telling me how cute my little boy is! Next year: more pink.)

I did yesterday's ride. It was nice to have a car-free ride. I did the 60 miler---I had no idea how beautiful Folsom is. You may have seen me at some point---my friends and I were Queen Bees!
