Why thanks for asking, Teigyr.
I had a GREAT race. Wore two chips (one for the HIM and one for the aquabike because I didn't know if my legs would hold up for the run). Yes, I registered for two races, but because I was staff I didn't have to pay for two (I'm not THAT crazy).Wound up doing the Aquabike (HIM swim and HIM bike). When I finished the bike it was 90 something degrees and the sun was killer hot, and being staff I knew I'd be out there until at least midnight so I wanted to save some strength.
Turns out that was a smart move because I placed 3rd OA female with a time of 3:53. Swim was rough water with some tough waves (read: not a great time on that leg), but the bike was wicked awesome. For the 56 miles (well, my cyclometer said 57, but who's counting) I averaged 18.5. For me- that's incredible. It's the fastest I've ever averaged at that distance (especially with some strong wind today). It's all about the bike, baby. My new buddy performed awesome out on the course.Tomorrow is the awards banquet and I'll be receiving some hardware. I'm quite happy.
DH did his first HIM. He did very well. Couldn't swim 25 yards last summer, but finished close to me on the swim, and our bikes were about the same (I just barely beat him on the bike leg), but the run killed him. He's a strong runner so if the heat and sun killed him, it would've kicked my tail. He stayed out with me until 10 and then went home. What a trooper.
A good day at our house.![]()
There weren't many pictures (got a couple of him at the finish and one of us together at the start- but don't know when I'll get those from a friend). Probably no pictures to post- sorry.
For any of you that are close enough to travel, it's the Redman Iron Distance Triathlon (and HIM and aquabike). www.redmantriathlon.com We're in OKC. It's a growing event with a great venue and some incredible volunteers. This year we had nearly 600 participants. We had some great groups from Texas (Amarillo, San Antone and Corpus) and Kansas. We even had someone from England and someone from Australia come over specifically to do the race (the UK person finished, but the Aussie dehydrated and had to stop on his marathon leg). Why they'd come to Oklahoma, when they could choose someplace exotic, I'll never know, but we were VERY flattered. We'd love to have you, too...
Shameless plug (OK- as a volunteer staff member I had to do it). Sorry.![]()
