I am considering getting a single speed. I would like to know from those of you that have one, what made you do it? And, how has your experience been (i.e. - how much stronger are you, is it fun, etc.) I consider myself an Intermediate rider...and I'm looking to build strength. Is it worth the investment or should I just stick with my geared mtb and road bike? Thoughts??

If you are going to give the thumbs up, please let me know some basics on what to consider when looking at the frames/bike builds, if you have opinions on that. Thanks!

difference in frame geometry: mtn vs ss?

I'm actually looking to build a singlespeed this winter... I have 2 months off from school before I study abroad, and figured it would be an excellent way to solidify what little mechanical knowledge I've picked up over two years of racing... plus, I need a new commuter and would like to use it to train for next fall mtn biking.

    but here's another question:
can i use a typical mtn frame, or is there something that sets "singlespeed frames" apart? in my quick web searches so far i've seen a ton of links for singlespeed frames, and tips for converting your hardtail to a single speed. i'm starting pretty much from scratch (i even plan on painting the frame myself )

sorry that this doesn't really answer your question... but i second your inquiry!

    thanks
