"CHARLESTOWN, R.I. -- Police in Charlestown say a man riding his bicycle in the breakdown lane of Route 1 was struck and killed by an SUV.

The accident happened late Tuesday afternoon on the southbound
side of the highway between Kings Factory Road and Prosser Trail.

The man, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from his bicycle. His name was not immediately released.

The woman who was driving the SUV was identified as Pamela Hurst, 59, of Westerly. She was taken to Westerly Hospital after the accident for treatment of what police say were minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation with no charges filed at this point."
