I just wanted all of you to know that I finished my first century ride today, the Assenmacher 100 out of Swartz Creek, MI. I was one of the last riders back and my average MPH was 13.7, a snails pace for many of you, but I rode all 100.2 miles of it. I 'm wondering how my body will will be feeling tomorrow. Right now I'm tired but not too sore. The weather was pretty cool, in the low 60's with a miserable drizzle all day long. I think that might have been better than the heat and humidity we had been having earlier last week.
I don't often post on the forum but I lurk almost every day. I sure did use a lot of the tips you ladies have shared to get through those miles. Thanks so much. I rode by myself as my kids and grandkids had other things to do today. Tonight this 60 year old grandma is feeling pretty proud of herself!

"How about if we all just try to follow these very simple rules of the road? Drive like the person ahead on the bike is your son/daughter. Ride like the cars are ambulances carrying your loved ones to the emergency room. This should cover everything, unless you are a complete sociopath."

Wow, congrats ! The Tour of Napa Valley was today, beautiful weather... one day I'll do the full century (we did the easy 30 miler today with a stop at the outlet shops 'o course)![]()
Now stop with that "my average was 13.7 mph, a snail's pace". You did bleeping hundred miles ! Good for you and power to ya. As Kalidurga says, inspirational for those of us a bit behind 60.
You bet your (not so happy) heiney you have something to be proud of! And that's a very respectable average. I'm not there yet.
I hope your grandkids realize what a cool granny they have.
I can't help but think of that ride as the Assmasher 100![]()

I'd be happy with that average and you're
5 years older than me.
Congrats on a hot summer century!
Kudos Sandy! Way to go! I am always excited whenever I hear stories like yours. Gives me hope and inspiration! You go girl!!!!!!!!!![]()
Keep on pedaling!
Sue
Good job! Having done my first century last month at the same average speed, and being 10 years younger than you are, I agree with the others--quit it with the badmouthing yourself! You did it, and you did great!
Yet another TE member who has been biten by the "century bug." Congratulations! You had a stellar day! And I hope there are future centuries on your list of rides to do.

Congratulations!!!! I hope you know, you ROCK!!!! (oh wait, YOU RIDE!!!!)
Wow, that's FANTASTIC!!! You are such a groovy granny! What a story to pass on to the grandkids.![]()
Good job. The century mark is a big step.
I'm contemplating whether I want to try a double next year or focus on helping my wife get ready for her first century. Both ideas have their merits but I think watching my wife finish a century will be more rewarding that proving to myself once again that I can shut down my rational mind and keep going just a little while longer.
Drink LOTS of water today and tomorrow and take a little light exercise tomorrow (a walk will suffice). Both will help flush the sludge out of your muscles. Some good clean protein and carbohydrates will help you recover too.
Congratulations! That is amazing! I can't wait to ride me first century! What an accomplishment. Kudos to you!!![]()
