    Another bike squeaking post

    To disable ads, please log-in.

When I wash my bike the brakes squeak for a bit.

If I don't wash the rims well it doesn't happen. But when I really get the rims nice and shiny the squeak. I'm just using the regular pink bike wash stuff.

    Any suggestions?

Try thoroughly wiping down the rims AND the brake pads with alcohol after you are all done cleaning the bike.

I'll take a couple of rubs with a piece of sandpaper too, esp in this hot weather. Roughs up the surface.

    Don't sandpaper your rims though!

DH will steel wool the braking surface once a year, seems to clean them up. We use to have lots of problems with our tandem squeaking, but after trying a couple different pads and keeping the rims clean I think we have it solved.
