    The Other Forum

    To disable ads, please log-in.

I was really into getting all the info on the Vino doping thing, so I went to all the regular cycle news sites and forums.

I read a bunch of threads on the tour de france forum on the other site and it just really bothered me - the way the post-ers treat each other - the snide comments, the picking apart each others' threads, the demeaning, the mean-spirited sarcasm, the namecalling, the bickering, bleh.

I want to say a great big THANK YOU to all of you TE women who are always supportive, educational, accepting, caring, fun and friendly. amici veloce

Why is this forum different than other forums?

On the other forums we sit up at our desk and flame people
On this forum we recline with Cliff Blocks and Peets and are couth

What's really sad is when the sarcasm is being generated by the moderators .

Fortunately, that does not happen here .

I agree... thats why I have hung about so long

Even when the discussion gets heated, it never gets into the venomous flaming, or unnecessary belittling I have seen on other forums.

The culture that has developed here is to be admired.

Thankyou TE participants, admin and moderators!

I agree, I used to be a regular reader/poster on another board, and I visited the women's forum on it. Eden told me to come check out TE, and now I am on TE regularly(i.e. multiple times a day) where I now only check the other one once or twice a week.

I feel like everyone here is welcoming and open to everytime of person(can't say women because we go beyond that here with a few great men), no one is put down because of a question asked or something they have or do, instead it is looked at as being a good quality that someone might be into something that you aren't- diversity is not looked down on.

TE is indeed unique (in a good way ). I know when I come here I have to mentally switch gears and drop the combative mode I have on the "other" boards.

I don't post here, or anywhere for that matter, very much, but I just want to say that you ladies have class. Most other forums make my blood boil. I don't mind some snark, but rude and cruel remarks are so childish. This place is always a joy to visit.

I don't hang out on any other forums. Sometimes I visit BikeJournal, but I don't hang out there. That one is also pretty civil.

I like having this forum where people are more respectful of each other. I guess it's because women are generally more sensitive and thoughtful.

Yep Manishtanah haforum hazeh michol ha forumot, sheh v'chol ha forumot we flame and we gripe, haforum haze-eh ... we do-on't?

And the answer: Cuz we like it this way, and cuz our moderators help us keep it this way.

So now that I'm contemplating hosting a forum myself (adding an on-line discussion element to a professional society's membership journal I edit), I'd welcome any tips from the moderators as to how much work that is and how they go about doing it.
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.
