    Imlp...

I just happened to be up at a friend's camp on Lake Champlain this weekend (by the way, it was gorgeous. Heaven on freaking earth.) and noticed on the ride up that the Ironman was taking place on Sunday in Lake Placid!

I tried to cajole The Boy into going down to it to watch it, but the idea of sitting around for several hours to watch people we didn't know (when we could be relaxing at the cabin) didn't sound too good. Plus traffic would have been a nightmare. So instead, on Saturday we took a ride down from Lake Champlain towards Lake Placid. Our goal had been to get to LP and then back but we didn't leave until too late so only made it to Whiteface before turning around. In the end we did about 50 miles, and just barely made it back before dark!

We ended up riding on some of the roads the race was on and HOLY CRAP I couldn't believe the hills on just that little section of the route! We clocked a 2+ mile hill coming up from the town of Jay towards Whiteface. Saw alot of the racers doing a training run on the roads and saw the motivational signs (they'd need em on that hill!).

So to anyone who did LP, congratulations, that course looked wickid hard!

    yep

We have been going up to the Adirondacks my entire life. I know the bike course well, and let me tell you Kimmy, you should see the other side, coming out of Keene Valley. It is crazy tough.

My hat is off to all of the racers in IMLP....

oh and just for giggles...I saw someone online contemplating their first IM and somebody responded that IMLP would be a good one to start with since it was in her neck of the woods. I quickly posted back...ARE YOU CRAZY?????

2008 race sold out in minutes!

It may be a tough course, but there are people out there lining up to do it! According to the folks on TNO there was a line around all of LP today waiting for onsite registration to open. They actually had to postpone online reg. to make sure they got all the onsite folks first. So when online opened there weren't very many slots left and it filled in mere moments.
WOW! There must be some tough cookies out there!
I have to say, I've always wanted to do that race, but the course scares the bajeepers out of me. I am SUCH a hill weenie!

    Talking Ha!

There is a MUCH bigger chance of me going to WA (down under dat is) than LP. I would have to train in the hills for a good couple of years before I could pull THAT rabbit out of my hat...
But thanks for the support, and if and when I ever decide to take the plunge, you will be the first to know!

I will have a full report (as volunteer/spectator/glomming cyclist)

So, Offthegrid and I made plans months and months ago to volunteer and that we did.

It is very late now and I just got back but I will have a full write up for you all soon and I took a ton of pictures.

I have been up there for 3 IMLPs in a row now, each year getting more involved. 1st year visiting friends "Oh, there's a triathlon this weekend." "What? Oh." Back then I was not a cyclist.
2nd year (1st year as new cyclist) - "Holy cow these roads look/are hard." Still didn't see any of the race etc because I left on Saturday. Did ride one part of the course (more on that later).
3rd year/this year - there specifically to take in the environment, train, and volunteer.

This year's race had amazingly perfect weather, tho warm for the run.

Anyway I will have much more soon.
