How to contain my excitement?

In the "Bikes" forum I posted a few days ago about the new bike I'm getting. It's a used Blue Competition Cycles RC4 frame being built up with new components. It will look something like this:

The thing is, I won't be getting it until the end of next week! So, this question is for those of you who have had to wait for custom builds. How do you control your excitement???

well, after a while, if you don't calm down, you start feeling resentful and discouraged. My bike was supposed to be ready in MAY. so it's kind of like... life. One day they're going to be done with it. and it will THEN be time to get all excited.
We went to the LBS yesterday to check and they told me it's 3/4 welded. I didn't even want to go back and look at it.
I want to see a complete beautiful bike.
and i know it's worth waiting for.

I do my very best to use my utterly limited attention span so I can *forget* about the thing I am waiting for. Then it's a FUN surprise :-)

I remember saying to my father, "I can't wait for..." in gnashing flailing anticipation, and he would say in mild amusement, "Then don't!" And I would stop and think, yea, he's right... it's not like I have a choice so I shouldn't make myself miserable over it (because I would... it *wasn't* happy excitement... sometimes we do grow and learn

Thanks ladies... I knew I could count on some good perspective. This whole biking thing has turned me into a little kid! I'm in awe of those of you waiting months for a new bike!

UPDATE! The guy building my bike just called to say the frame was in, that it's gorgeous, and he is planning to build it this afternoon, and wants to get it shipped tomorrow or Wednesday so I'll be sure to get it in time for my cycling vacation on the 23rd. What a guy!

What a beautiful bike rij! I can't wait to see a picture of yours when it is complete.

And I'm psyched for you, that you're getting the road bike you have earned! You will be so happy with it!

(By the way, it's nice to know I'm not the only one here who is enthusiastic (read: obsessive) about riding.

We all have our issues...

Thanks, northstar! I guess I just have no life, because my excitement is keeping me awake at night.

Just talked to Tom at GVH Bikes (the guy building it). He says it's going great and will go off in tomorrow's shipment. Means I'll have it on the 18th! I promise copious pictures will be soon to follow.

It's going to be all Shimano 105 except for the Ultegra-level short reach shifters, and the Shimano compact crankset. Mavic Aksium wheels, carbon seatpost, and Terry Butterfly saddle. My calculations based on the published weights of everything bring the bike in at 17.5 lbs!

I dreamed they were done with my bike and it had huge balloon tires and it was completely the wrong color!

I am SO right there with you! When my Cannondale frame was ordered, I was told it would be a week or two. It was SO hard to wait, but it only got harder because not only did it turn into a grueling FOUR weeks ... but during that time, my daughter got a new bike and handed her old one down to her sister, the sister promplty "lost" the bike (we think it was stolen from the garage?), so Dh promptly took her to the store and got her a new one (no daughter of his is going to go bikeless). Dh then got HIS new Cannondale road bike that he had ordered shortly before we ordered mine (took about a week is all), then he bought off Ebay AND received a new mountain bike ... and then a friend of his shows up one night to show off HIS beautiful new bike.

I WAS GOING CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have no words of wisdom as to how to handle the stress of it all because I was a blubbering complaining baby!

The day I found out it was in, I had called the LBS shop NOT to bug them again about if my bike was in, but had very important questions about handle bar tape, including the shade pink the tape was they were putting on my bars. I'm sure the guy thought I was nuts (and he's right!). During the conversation it came out that, "Oh, your frame came in today."

WHAT?!!! My bike is sitting there in your shop, I'm talking to you for like five minutes and you're not telling me it's there?!!! Of course, they had to put it together and I had to wait yet another day.

But, boy let me tell you, it was worth the wait! So, just remember that while you wait. It will be so worth it!

hmm, "worth" the wait. what does that mean exactly?

For me it's just easier to forget about it as much as possible.

Jiffer, I have to admit that your sleek new ride was one of the ones that pushed me over the edge in absolutely *needing* a new bike! LOL!

Oh my goodness! I partially feel honored that my "sleek" new bike inspired you to get a new one and partially guilty that you felt you absolutely "needed" and new bike becaue of mine!

Either way ... I got a new bike and you get a new bike, so it's all good, right?!
