    July 6th Rides!

It';s my Friday off, so why is my alarm going off at 5:30AM? Then I remember that it's supposed be over 100 F today. again. and I need to run by DMV to see about my missing DL.
So I got rolling about 6:30 (i hit the snooze button more than once). I went through I call "the swamp". It's the back yard of a school next to my place My access drive empties out on a busy street, and this allows to bypass it, although I have to portage the bike, since the ground is usually mucky, even at this time of year.
I head east, and made my way up to Baseline road, I then up Eitwanda and East. I have a guy that's going to ride one of my permanent route in August, and I had seen a sign indicating that there was going to be a construction project, so I wanted to get the dates to pass on (along with a detour)
I then head west to Claremont before getting on Arrow to go back home. Did 30 miles in a bit over two hours, and got home before it got to be too hot (I'm reading 97.5 right now)
The only bad news: when I got to the DMV, there was already a line out the door

I decided to take my recumbent out for a spin this morning. I quickly discovered that the cable to my cadence wire had be cut in half thus explaining why there was no readout on the screen for this function. I did not let this sad discovery keep me from the ride and ride I did. I had a very enjoyable 20 mile and felt, for the first time, strong on this bike. I'm not sure what to make of this feeling but I enjoyed every minute of this wonderful experience. I even posted a great average speed (16.3 mph), iciing on the cake.

I spent this evening taking the old cadence wires off and putting a new cadence magnet/wire kit on my bike. I was so pleased to see that it worked. In the past I would simply have called my ex-BF to ask for assistance but not anymore. I know it is not a hard task but my confidence is not high when it come to mechanical/fix-it issues. However, I proved that I could do this without Tom's help and that did wonders for my spriits.

did 30 miles or so. not sure because my bike computer wasn't working at all. i changed the batteries 2 weeks ago. and it's wireless so it isn't a broken cable. i always forget the sequence to "wake it up" but I seemed to have tried just about every possible button sequence today to no avail. oh well, that's a task for tomorrow. my cadence readings have not been working lately either, so it seems i'm in for a session with my bike tomorrow! and a good opp to clean it as well.

I was back on the bike today for the first time in a week...I was on vacation, which was great, but I missed riding! I guess no riding for a week can kind of mess things up. I had a decent 19.7 mile ride, but I felt crummy. My legs were tight and felt surprisingly tired. Plus I had to drag myself out of bed to beat the heat. The ride itself was ok, but the cyclist was a sluggish grump! And she still is a big grump because she doesn't have air conditioning! It's 87 degrees in my house

Sarah, when it is that hot you need to find a good friend with air conditioning. My 35 mile ride was in the 90's so I took more breaks than usual. I was going to break down and use my camelback today but my dh had taken every ice cube for his ice chest. I was surprised by 5 miles of road construction but made it through o'k.
