Well Here it is.. it has taken me awhile to get it up here. things have been crazy since the triathlon. But here I go.
(not necessary to read if in a hurry)
I went to leave for the triathlon on friday ( I live about four hours away from where it was being hosted in my home town) I went to load my bike on my new bike rack and couldn't figure it out and about freaked, luckily i had a friend there who wasn't stressed out and figured it out for mewheew! And once I put my bike on my car it was all nerves from there, occasionaly I would forget and think I was just driving home for a visit then I would see my bike on the back and freak out again. So I arrived after taking longer than planned because of traffic..ect. And then had about fifty miscommunications with my friends on where we were supposed to go first (drop the bikes off or go to the meeting/dinner for the triathletes) finally figured it out and we drove up to the lake where shockingly the first person I see is my ex. I about puked on him.(partly from shock partly from nerves) I couldn't believe that he was there I was already freaking out about the race the next morning and the last time we spoke we got into a big fight. But I decided not to care I was here to race not to worry about the past. Although I mustn't lie I kept having a pain in my gut every time I saw him.... so we all went home a few of the girls doing the race decided that they would sleep at my house so they didn't sleep in. We all went to bed at 10:30 as planned but then I just layed there and layed there and yet again layed there.. until about 12:30 when someone sat up and i asked if they were alright and then we all found out NON of us could sleep. so about 1:00 I just got up and wrote in my journal and read which finally helped and I finally drifted off to sleep about 2:00, which left a total of about 3 hrs to sleep to be at the shuttle on time.. so then off we went to the race the next morning..
THE REPORT!
The swim:
it was so amazing I loved it. I think I went a little too slow though from trying to pace myself and telling my self to slow down as in no one was really passing me. so when I saw my time I was a little disappointed but I seriously loved the swim it was so fun and it just felt natural. time: 19:14
ran up the ramp to transition one. wipped off and tried to put my socks on which wasn't happening threw them to the side and just put my bike shoes on (which was a little weird because i've never rode without socks) time: 2:56
The bike:
we had about 100 yards of flat to get our legs under us then came the blasted hill of death... I knew it was going to be hard but I was about to die up this thing I was in the lowest gear possible and still felt like my legs were not moving. finally a lady I knew caught up with me and we talked each other up the hill and then we reached it and off I went it was so much fun the rest of the way until of course the second hill which I wanted to die again but it wasn't as bad as the first so I knew I could do it. And then the fun began I got low on the bike, peddled pretty hard and flew down the mountain. It was exilerating. then for the last 4 miles it was at a slightly but steady incline which wasn't too bad and it went right by my house which was fun. only a bunch of big burly guys past me which was fine with me. Time: 52:34
coming into the transition area there were people there to take your bikes for you and someone to help them I unclipped early as they had advised at the meeting but as I went to peddle one last time it clipped me in again (I'm new to the whole clippless stuff still) and I kinda got stuck on my bike finally I got off and went ot my transition area where I couldn't get my bike shoes off and suddenly forgot how to tie my laces for my running shoes (haha which I thought was had been instilled into me since I was in kindergarten!) Then off I went T2: 2:03
The run:
As I started the run I felt okay for a little bit then my left calf kept cramping up which killed and I started running kinda funny and kept trying to get the cramp out finally it subsided but still left a trace of pain. The run is where I died. But mentally I was doing fine and i just kept going, this is where a lot of people passed me though but I was okay with that because my legs just weren't going anywhere so i just kinda took my time and enjoyed the scenery and had fun. (haha slow but fun) I came around onto the finish line sprinted to the end (which probably was actually a slow crawl but it was a sprint to me) I was happy a little dissappointed in the run but I was still proud. Time: 40:59.
total: 1:58:48
My goal was to get under 2 hrs, which I did (hehe just barely though) I also took second in my age group.. which doesn't seem to say alot but I was still proudNow.. i'm excited for my next on August 4. i'm going to take some time off to let my body heal and start it all again.. which I'm excited for..

great report. so where were these hills?
You did really well for a first race. Most important is that you overcame your anxiety and were able to not let the X bother you too much. It's also really great that you were relaxed on the swim. The run always feels awful for me.
So good on ya!!![]()

The best part about going up hills is riding back down!
CONGRATULATIONS KRYS!!!!
Soooo- you're in love with the sport, huh? You had a FANTASTIC first race, and you should be very proud of yourself- and very proud of your 2nd place AG finish!!! You met your goal and had a good time- which is what it's all about!!!!

Krys... first race, you achieved your goal of under 2 hours... well done girl!
So pleased to hear you had some rewarding downhill after that hill of death and its mate!
You rock!
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
"I will try again tomorrow".
Excellent Job. The only thing I would change for next time is maybe to go ahead and barf on the ex....Just kidding. You should be very proud of yourself. The second one will be even better.
