    It's a family affair!

Okay, I am so proud of my little family I could just burst. I have been trying for twenty years to get my husband interested in something that we both loved and he would be the one saying, "come on, come on let's go out and do______" instead of me dragging him out to do something he wasn't interested in.

We tried golf, he liked it but I hated it, too tame and staid for me.

Horses. I ride well and he has no balance and he really hated riding them. Our son hated the horses.

    Inline skating. That didn't work.

Mountain biking. He sorta liked it but not much.

And on and on with different athletic misadventures.

SO, recently, like Tour de France recently, I got him interested in a road bike. We got him a Specialized Sequoia and a true miracle happened on Friday. He came home from a long day of travelling and only about an hour and half of light and said, "Wanna go ride?" Well YEAH I would. It may not sound like a big deal but I have been waiting for 20 years to have him suggest we go do something active.

THEN our one and only child, 16 year old, highly fit ball of muscle called Zach, decided he wants to do a duathlon. (he is a cross country runner). So we went to the bike store on Saturday to get him a bike. Hubby decides to bequeath to son the Specialized Sequoia and buys himself a Specialized Roubaix (oh the injustice! I WANT a Roubaix!).

Yesterday we went for our first family ride. It was Zach's first time to be on a road bike (he has done BMX and mountain biking in the past), first time to go clipless. He's looking pretty cute in his Volvo/Cannondale jersey...sigh.....that little stinker just smoked us! We're telling him 'uh, ya know, we are going 26 miles, son, pace yourself'. He rides fast and far ahead and comes back to check on The Elderly as he calls us (I'm 39 and Ben is 43). The child is enthralled.

We just had the best time. Latter that evening Zach went and rode again. And on Saturday we will all do 50 miles of the Hotter N Hell 100. Zach, being a brash teenager, thinks he is ready for the 100 miler. Ha! In any case, he wants to race. We'll let him ride the Roubaix for his first duathlon in October.

You guys, I just cannot say enough what this means for me. Finally, finally, after trying what seems like every sport under the sun we have clicked onto something we all love. I mean addicted-to-love type of love.

I'd like to do the duathlon with Zach and may well train for that, too. We'll see. In any case, we are now going to have to learn about road races, etc., to find for the boy. Not to mention endurance rides.

Ok, so I am gaga over my guys. But this has been a long time coming.
Ever notice that 'what the hell' always seems to be the best decision?
